DIY Pillowcase with button accents

The very first sewing project I ever made as an adult was a pillowcase. I have a really hard time with patterns and complex sewing, and so this has been a “go-to can do” project for me over the last twenty years or so. I’ve got a lot of fabric that I want to see in use, and a lot of ideas for stepping up my pillow game, so once in a while here I will be sharing a how-to tutorial!

The great thing about a pillow case is that you can make it by simply folding fabric over (offset/overlapping) and creating a pocket for the pillow to slide on in. It only requires 4 stitch lines – two across the “ends”, that will be exposed, and then once folded along the top and bottom (or sides – depending on which edge is raw/open) before flipping right side out and utilizing!  Continue reading “DIY Pillowcase with button accents”

Around here: August 2018 (a full GenCon report!)

Around here things are wild as we prepare for back to school! It’s been busy with work and travel – and Bandit is ready with his new Tshirt.

He gained the title security when my cousin came to visit and he shoved his head right into her purse to inspect. He hurts nothing – he just has to check it all out! Security indeed.

Speaking of – I was so thrilled to attend a totally new to me convention called GenCon in Indianapolis this past week as a representative for Brother. This event of thousands (70,000 ish?!)  takes over the entire downtown from the convention center to the hotel meeting space -and even Lucas Oil Stadium where the Colts play!

Rainbow scallop banner with ScanNCut

Hello lovelies! As I type this I’m working with Brother at GenCon (more on that soon!) in Indianapolis demonstrating the ScanNCut to some super nice makers & crafty folk. Back at home I have a brand new banner up in my studio and today I wanted to share about it!

As you see above – there’s this spot in the studio that I don’t love. When I take photos, I see this wide WHITE space… that isn’t pretty. So for quite a while I’ve had in my mind I want to do a rainbow banner – scallops if I can! Continue reading “Rainbow scallop banner with ScanNCut”

Unicorn to my Rainbow: Watercolor Card

So I went shopping some new stamps and found some I simply couldn’t pass up! (Affiliate links used below) Paired with one of my 28 Lilac Lane mixes (Fairy Dust – now shipping!) these Ellen Hutson Unicorn stamps and sentiment  were simply too much fun! I am a really big fan of taking a piece of watercolor paper and just trying new stamps out. No pressure, no fuss! So here today is what I came up with for these new to me sets.

Rainbow Belt DIY

I’ve had some crazy ideas in my time, but this might just take the cake. Have you ever heard of cosplay? Essentially you’re talking about dressing up as a fictional character – and anything goes. You could be dressing up as your favorite super hero, TV cartoon character, or someone from a game! Some folks truly make an art of it, and it goes way beyond Halloween!

Now this idea has always intimidated me- I’m no seamstress! In recent years though, a form of dress up inspired by characters has emerged that has really caught my attention. Essentially using your own wardrobe with slight alteration to have a “normal clothes… but inspired by/clearly intending to be — character” look. So think colors, patterns, and designs simple interpretations that can be done with little or no custom DIY work. Also, think small. You can just add a belt, a necklace, or some other accessory you customized.

Why do I bring all this up? Well I’m flying off to GenCon 2018 to work the room with Brother ScanNCut team and I thought it would be fun to dress up a bit as I know so many attendees do! But what to do? What would be something I could make but also would be practical and comfortable?  Continue reading “Rainbow Belt DIY”
