Rainbow Belt DIY

I’ve had some crazy ideas in my time, but this might just take the cake. Have you ever heard of cosplay? Essentially you’re talking about dressing up as a fictional character – and anything goes. You could be dressing up as your favorite super hero, TV cartoon character, or someone from a game! Some folks truly make an art of it, and it goes way beyond Halloween!

Now this idea has always intimidated me- I’m no seamstress! In recent years though, a form of dress up inspired by characters has emerged that has really caught my attention. Essentially using your own wardrobe with slight alteration to have a “normal clothes… but inspired by/clearly intending to be — character” look. So think colors, patterns, and designs simple interpretations that can be done with little or no custom DIY work. Also, think small. You can just add a belt, a necklace, or some other accessory you customized.

Why do I bring all this up? Well I’m flying off to GenCon 2018 to work the room with Brother ScanNCut team and I thought it would be fun to dress up a bit as I know so many attendees do! But what to do? What would be something I could make but also would be practical and comfortable?  Continue reading “Rainbow Belt DIY”

Star Spangled Summer Fun with the ScanNCut

I am really trying to embrace a few new things this year, one of them being having some kind of seasonal decor on the dining room table. Now – we don’t often eat in this area… but it always feels nice to have something that looks good but didn’t cost a lot or take a ton of time. Today I want to share how the ScanNCut (the usual disclaimer: I am a paid consultant for Brother, but all ideas and opinions are always my own) is helping me kick off the summer!

ScanNCut Vinyl: Never have boring documents again!

A few months back I shared my “Taxes” artwork that I created and added vinyl to my tax document storage. Take something dull, make it fun! Well NOT wanting to lose any very important documents for our upcoming trip from airline confirmations to trip insurance information I decided to once again use my handwriting to create a fun project.

ScanNCut: Crafty tote

I recently went from a bunch of smaller containers to one large crafty tote on my “messy desk” aka mixed media station. Inside I store everything from my heat tool to paper towels, water brushes to watercolor pens! It really has come in handy… but it is awfully boring!
