New Year, New Monday Challenge!

New year, new week, and a new challenge at the Monday challenge blog! This week we’re kicking the year off with celebrating new and/or old things!

An old favorite technique of mine is to “clean up” by grabbing whatever is on my desk and making a project! Here I’ve made a pocket tag with loads of Tim Holtz + Ranger goodness. Can you guess why?

097

If you guessed because I had just finished working on projects for them (CHA trade show is just a few days away!) you’d be correct!

099

I just love what that texture paste + a stencil does – love it!

Another “old” favorite of course is black stitching – love what it can add both texture and color wise to a project.

The year is off to a great crafty start – what are you making?  Simon is, as always, offering a generous $50 voucher that will be randomly drawn from the eligible entries each week. Challenge: Good ‘ol days…

This week’s challenge got me thinking about my grandma’s cabin in the woods, pinecones, and well, I went down a nostalgic crafty path.

This new texture folder is so fantastic – and it got me thinking about woodland colors, pinecones, and considering a more rustic color palette for the holidays. I love that I can craft and think through ideas while creating projects! This particular tag will top a gift/package this Christmas.

I loved tucking all the buttons, brads, and trims into this tag.

Fun doesn’t begin to describe how much I enjoyed making this tag.

Foiled? Add some ink…

Goal: To be done with any Christmas shopping, and “to mail” crafting before November 1

Can I do it? I’m not so sure but I am falling in LOVE with the idea of doing any shopping very early, then simply sitting back and SOAKING UP the magic of the season. This week at the challenge blog “fall in love” is the theme, and I have to go with my current fixation (aka finishing Christmas shopping super early) and also with the technique used to create this card!

How-to is super easy. Just emboss foil cardstock. Then paint it green (I used some old acrylic paint I had laying around – any would do!). Then scrape off a LOT of the paint. A LOT. Now go to town with alcohol inks to color!

Once all that is done, all you need to do is add some embellishments and give it a good healthy squirt of my favorite perfect pearls mist. Done!

This is a favorite – and one I will actually use to top a gift box and not as a card.

This Monday’s challenge…

063

What to do when you’ve got a card in need of the right finishing touch? Add a stamped sentiment, that’s what!

This card that I am sharing is actually one I taught at a recent class – so much layering and inking fun.

During the creative process I got to a point where I really just did not know -WHAT, or WHERE to put a sentiment… and I knew I simply needed something…

then I realized I could stamp a sentiment from the set, and that became the finishing touch my card needed.

Challenge: Stamps + Stencils

092

Stamps + stencils = fun.

Take some distress ink and color with the stencil… but wait! Leave that stencil right where it is and add some paste…

004

Not perfect – get funky..

005

Oh and while it is there? mist it just a bit.

008

Oh sweet color and texture combinations!!

Then it was a matter of adding my (distress) colored bee, some tissue, and other finishing accents to my tag.

094

LOVE how this one turned out!
