Dog Days of Summer: Donut Puppy stamped card

Welcome to the dog days of summer! This week on my blog I’ll be sharing ideas for the dogs. To kick things off, I’m playing with a new stamp – a puppy in a donut! What could be cuter for a Monday? This is a Sweet Stamp Shop stamp – part of a new release I just couldn’t resist. Calorie free donuts? Yes please!

First I stamped the image in archival ink and cut it out by hand. It is a small simple stamp so it wasn’t hard at all! Then I took clean color markers (any markers or colors are fine!) and I colored my puppy & donut.

Sometimes with an image like this it can be tricky to figure out how best to design your card. My solution? Go super simple!! I stamped the sentiment on watercolor paper (in archival ink) after figuring out about where I wanted it.

The next part is really fun. Take a water bottle or water brush and add water to some of your background. Not all! Then use your watercolor markers (just ‘touch’ the pen to the water quickly and repeatedly as you see below), drip single drops of watercolor or spray color (such as distress spray) onto the wet area(s), or otherwise add color. The water will help immediately blend, bleed, and move your color all around.

Then the hardest part – let it dry!

Once dry I added some gold flecks of Heidi Swapp mist, added my puppy (on foam adhesive for pop), and mounted this onto a standard 5 1/2 x 4 1/4 folded card.

Here’s my finished card – so sweet! I just love how it turned out and how much fun it was to quickly make as well. Not all projects have to be super complex or time consuming – and thisĀ  week you’re going to get some fast (fun) doggie inspired goodness from me here. Stay tuned!

What are you doing during these dog days of summer? Are you still on vacation? Getting back into a school mode? Having a horrid heat wave like we are here? I will be here with the fan on high, and the projects coming at you daily! I hope you enjoy…

  1. Aw such a cute image for your card! Thats a technique I havent tried. Its not summer yet in NZ so I’m hanging out for our season to change to warmer ????

  2. OKay i can do this! I took your advice and spent several hours Saturday coloring Tim’s crazy dogs. Tried some different techniques-definitely getting better. I am very pleased with a bulldog I did. I’ll use him to make a similar card.

  3. YES!!! Have fun with it – and be sure to share (if you’re on the FB group be sure to post!)

  4. Just adorable
I”m looking at the Sweet STamp shop website regularly since you introduced me to them in cAmp Scrap! Those princess stamps!!

  5. I have been mending from a bad back and a really bad reaction to the steroid injection they gave me in my lower back.
