Scrapbook Day 2016

Taking time out of regular life to enjoy yourself should always be a priority. I’ve heard haters over the years about how it is selfish to do so – or how just playing vs meaningful story telling isn’t valuable. I will never understand that mentality!

Scrapbooking has been an important part of my life for as long as I can remember! From vacations to funny moments- I cherish the pages Ive made as much as I enjoyed the creative process of making them.

Today to celebrate international scrapbook day originally? I was going to do nothing. Not  up to full pages. But wait. My friends at Clique Kits asked me to contribute a video (link) and I thought… maybe I can do a little something! You know I don’t believe in rules and creative restrictions. This applies to scrapbooking.. Make it what you want! Just the birthdays? Vacations? Happy times only? No journaling? Just photos? Few photos? Daily? Once a year?

Do whatever makes you happy.

Over the years I’ve just marched to the beat of my own drum. Tried to not follow trends or feel I “had” to anything. I stand by that. I’m currently working out what might work for me right now, maybe more pocket pages. But it can change as my needs and abilities do – scrapbooking is ever flexible and wonderful. Scrapbook Layout with Crate Paper & 28 Lilac Lane

DSC_2233

One of my favorite things about creating with my new line 28 Lilac Lane? The kits and bottles play beautifully with all of my favorite papers, stickers, and other crafty supplies! Today’s project is a mix of the Just Peachy bottle, Attic Findings kit, and a lot of Maggie Holmes (mostly confetti line) for Crate Paper product.

This is a layout that was displayed at CHA – just love how it turned out! If you’re looking for some of these papers that I’ve used (affiliate link used) you can find them here at Scrapbook.com.

Cork + my Paws & Pets kit = winning combination!

After creating the Ranger photo frame (posted last month here) I decided to see if I could make a different kind of project for Scrappy, but with the same basic supplies. When it comes to keeping a lot of neutral embellishments popping, I like to use a blue or green color for contrast.

For this layout I kept it really simple –  letting all those elements from the pearls to the buttons, beads, and of course the paw trim from the kit (link) take center stage!

Want to see more of my 28 Lilac Lane projects and videos? click here to view all of my past posts.

You can find the entire 28 Lilac Lane in stores now – including ellenhutson.com! Speaking of Ellen, as promised here is the information for the give-away:

Tim Holtz 2015 Halloween products Scrapbook Layout (and new online class!)

DSC_5813

Today my newest online class begins – Tried & True Scrapbook Layouts! This layout design isn’t quite the same as ours from class – but you may notice similarities. Not in class yet? Why not?! It’s going to be SO much fun – and seriously packed with content. Get info + register here at my site. Note that the price will be going up in a few weeks (due to the content being added – currently 15hrs of video and it keeps growing!) so I’d recommend getting in soon. It’s self-paced and class will be “live” several months (yes, with access after it ends) so don’t worry if you’re going to be busy for part. Work at your own pace for sure.

Inspired by that – here’s a new layout from me!

Question: Can you scrapbook 12×12 with 8×8 paper?

Answer: Heck yes!

Today I’ve got a layout to share – this one featuring none other than our tiniest member: Miss Scrappy!

Notable things:

  • I used 8″ strips of the patterned paper and assembled them together to create the mat for my photo. I stitched a few pieces together as well.
  • All of the embellishments used are 2015 Tim Holtz Halloween line, with the exception of the buttons and beads
  • I stitched three times around the edge, then added stickles and gold paint droplets. One of my favorite tricks!
  • For my cluster of embellishments I first established my journaling area, then worked around that.

Once I was happy with my arrangement of the papers I started adding details. Oh, I do love my details!

I was also delighted to discover that I had a bottle of orange stickles just perfect for accenting my wicked black plastic word and for dotting all around. Here’s my finished page:

I love how it turned out – and if you’re hoping for a class coming soon where I dive into scrapbook layout design and putting all these kinds of things together you’re in luck! It began today as I mentioned before and info is up here.

These Tim Holtz Halloween products that I used are now in shops everywhere! I found some at my local shop, and I’ve seen them online at Blue Moon and Simon Says Stamp. Note those are affiliate links – if you happen to use them or any affiliate links here on my site it helps support what I do so thank you for that.
