CHA spotlight: Tim Holtz

Tim Holtz never fails to amaze me – and this show is no exception! This post is going to be a long one – I’ve got a LOT to cover.

When I first saw distress paints thrilled wouldn’t begin to cover it! For the few years I’ve resorted to using re-inkers or stains with white acrylic paint to make distress colored paints. Which works, but it isn’t quite the same as having distress paint. So imagine my delight when I found that Tim found a way to make distress in paint form!

As Tim explained on his blog:

The distress paint formulation works on multi-surfaces including paper, chipboard, grungeboard, fabric, wood, metals and plastics.  it is also reactive with water while the paint is wet allowing you some great blending ability and awesome textural effects.  the best part however, is once the paints are dry, they don’t rewet so you’re able to layer these with the other distress products like inks and stains to achieve incredible effects.

I will be working up tutorials and a review once these are in stores. They are now available for pre-order at Simon Says Stamp as a set or individually. You will also find Tim’s stamps (some shipping now!) and all his other products as available at Simon as well. Speaking of his other products- WOW. From stamps to dies to ideaology Tim did not disappoint! Let’s start in idea-ology:

  6. Out of all the folks who have posted pics from CHA, yours are the best quality/resolution. Thank you! Love your shots of the TH booth……..looking forward to the texture fades; love the Eiffel Tower card! Do you know if the colors are paint, mist, distress pens or all of the above? Thank you.

  7. thank you for the kind words about my photos!! The show floor is always a challenge, so I was excited by how well mine came out.
Julie – I do not know what they did the card with maybe a combo of pen/stain/ink?

  8. Love looking at all the photos. You did a wonderful job taking pictures. Hopefully a store near me will carry the Distress paint. I think they would be a lot of fun to play with.

  10. Hi May,
Finally back from CHA and reading/looking at my blog feeds. First I wanted to send kudo’s to you for the fabulous photos taken in Idea-ology, Ranger and Sizzix. I am not a photographer so I really appreciate the seeing the booths from new angles. Just terrific photos. Makes me excited for the next show when we will unpack it and set it all up again…
On a side note, the Eiffel Tower card in the Sizzix booth was made by Mou Saha. I believe she used Distress stains to create the card.
    thanks May!
    kind regards,
    paula c
