proposal: part 1

Earlier today I read Stephanie’s crazy cute story of proposal & I got to thinking about my own. It comes in 2 parts, and assuming I can dig up the photos in a timely fashion here there will be a layout or two as well. Here, is part 1:

“Someday” he said, wrapping his arms around my waist and kissing me on the top of her head as we waited in line for splash mountain “Someday I could see coming back here and proposing to you.”
“Sounds good” I said, the happy bubbling up inside me. “I would so love to get engaged at Disneyland!” The truth was, I was over the moon happy. My boyfriend of one year admitted he totally saw himself getting married to me someday (as I did him) – and that he’d do it at Disneyland my favorite place on earth. Oh yeah. Major happy.
We  had been dating one year, and in celebration we were on our first ever vacation – it was a super fun time. I can still pinpoint the exact spot in the ride queue where he said that – I can still visualize the whole scene. It was a major moment for me.  Oh – there were dramatic incidents to be sure – but overall a very good experience that made me love Jason even more. We continued dating – taking many trips and vacations together and finding ourselves in the middle of truly great love.
In the summer of 2000, when my condo needed to be sold, Jason and I decided to try living together – after all I was at his place a ton already and given the personal drama my family had been going through I felt strongly about seeing what living with Jason would be like before I said “I do”. Moving in I had ‘the talk’ with him that I’d not be one of those girls who moves in with her boyfriend only to have him refuse to commit to marriage – either this works well as we believed in our hearts and we continue our path as husband & wife, or it doesn’t and we break up.
Six weeks later (it was Jason’s idea though I planned the trip details) we went to Disneyland. I was beyond excited. It was September (our anniversary month) and we’d been dating three years. I moved in with him and that was working out great, and hello – he’d told me so long ago his plan of proposing at Disneyland. I was pumped. I bought new clothes and make-up for the trip, I got a new haircut, put acrylic nails on, got a pedicure – the whole nine yards. Once down in Anaheim I made sure that every time we left the hotel room I had full make-up and I had a full ensemble look going on. Oh yes- accessories and all I was prepared.
If you haven’t already guessed, I tend to be highly organized and also I have a great memory most of the time.

We went to the Blue Bayou for lunch and I wore a skirt. My eyes were twinkling and I had a smile… but it didn’t happen.

On the anniversary of our first date… nothing but being drug ride to ride and big smiles from him.

Later in a lovely corner of New Orleans square he kneeled down and I about jumped out of my skin… until I realized he was tying his shoe and nothing more.

We shared a kiss and hug in front of the castle one night as it twinkled and glowed with romance and magic…

On the last day, as we packed up the car it hit me. He had no intention of proposing, nor did he realize that I’d been expecting it for the last five days. I bit my lip a lot on that ride home, and I managed to keep it together and also not blurt out how disappointed I was.
I let myself have a big sob/poor me fest a few days later when he went back to work. I was SO disappointed!!! I ate my way through some Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and a whole lotta baked goods from the grocery store.
After much hissing, stink eyeing, and general nastiness on my part for a few days I snapped and told him why I was so mad.
His response? “Huh. Dang that would have been great, you’re right. I don’t even remember ever saying that. How do you remember these things?”
Seriously. I was mortified. Crushed. Angry. But most of all? Above all else I just knew even more than I’d ever imagined that I loved this man and wanted my life to be with him forever and ever.

 To be continued…

kits: welcome to my adventure!

I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am! 1) that this class has gone from a dream of mine to reality and I get to teach it, 2) that I can finally talk about it and 3) that I’m getting fantastic e-mails from students already getting set up for it!!

I didn’t think I’d ever do another kits class (I did one a few years back), but one day a few months ago I had this moment of pure inspiration (and/or insanity… not totally sure) and I saw with perfect clarity how I could do an all new class that is totally different and it’s own thing – but still make it so people who didn’t take that class back in ’07 could play along and be 100% happy and satisfied too. No – I didn’t want a sequel, I wanted new and separate. I wanted bigger & better too…

Apparently, it was indeed good inspiration (and not bad crazy) because quickly after I proposed it I heard back from Stacy J and before I know it we’re on the phone and planning this thing out!! Since I spoke to her back in July it’s been crazy – the response from kit club owners, as well as support of Big Picture has been fantastic and here we are – ready to get our kit adventure groove on. As I anxiously count down to class starting I’ll be sharing sneak peeks & fun stories – heck and even a few layouts & kit prizes for my blog readers here! First – a few q’s I’ve been getting a lot already –

So first of all what is a kit? Simply put, it’s collecting some scrapbook supplies that will work well together. In this class, we focus on what you can do with kits to create fabulous layouts. I’ve designed class (as I do all my classes) so that you can work with any supplies you may have in your stash – OR – of course any kits you might be hoarding as well! If you want me to enable you to purchase new supplies I’d be happy to help (wink) – but know it’s not a requirement or expected.

Another question I am getting a lot is “is this the crazy about kits class?” and the answer is NO! With two exceptions in the pre-class materials, this is an all new class. If you took the kits class I did a few years back you might recognize some of my base principles and rules for crafting with kits – but this is a totally different, all new class. I think you’re going to like it.

Finally (for today, at least) I’m asked “what if I don’t know how to put a kit together but I want to?” and the answer is this – there is an audio/visual presentation about putting kits together as well as some bonus pre-class material you can access the minute you register. It’s designed to help you prepare for class so that you can jump right in creating!! If that’s not enough – I encourage students to e-mail me before class with any questions or if help is needed getting a kit together. As I say in my pre-class presentation – I’m all about making this the best experience I can for you!!

Do you like this photo mask? I’m soooooo into photo masks now and it’s all thanks to Katie Pertiet of www.designerdigitals.com. This particular design is in the digital kit she designed for class! Oh yes, you heard right – there’s a digital kit by (pixel goddess) Katie featured in one of the weeks – and everyone in class gets it. Crazy cool -right!? I’ll talk more about that, and why those of you scared of digital will be ok (you can just play with paper – relax!) in future. In meantime – if you can think of q’s or anything you’d like to ask me feel free! I’ll be here in-studio all weekend working on class…

on this day…

words are tough. I remember very clearly sitting in front of the tv all day. Being at work and having ZERO customers. Searching for news of the loved ones inside the buildings. Even today the memories can bring me to tears, and I think that’s the way it should be.

I will not forget – just as I will not forget to be thankful to the men & women who put themselves on the line for the rest of us. To help us. Keep us safe. My husband is one of them – and I am proud of the work he does every day.

thanks

It might not be fancy or long winded, but thanks to those who serve now and remembrance of those who’ve lost their lives is what I’ve got today.

This is the class I’ve spent the last six weeks (and next few weeks as well) preparing. Creating. Dreaming up new ideas for.

I’ve got a lot more to say, and a lot more peeks inside of class – but I wanted to be sure and post this right away since class just opened for registration tonight! If you’ve got questions feel free to e-mail me or ask them here – I promise to answer!

POTD = {prize inside}

potd = project of the day @ www.fiskarscrafts.com/projects  in my universe. I plot these out & love working with the design team on these. I also like giving stuff away when I have projects up.  This month? I have 2 projects, and today the first is featured.

The concept is so basic it’s silly (almost) and I kick myself for not thinking of it sooner. NEVER has my bedside table looked cuter, nor has my nightly ‘reading in progress’ material been easier to find. I’m keeping a bottle of water in here now too. This Heidi Grace fabric was purchased to make myself a skirt with. That ambitious project didn’t happen. It’s ok- I’ll just use it for simple cuteness like this.
