welcome…

to the land flu hit.

miss E is suffering from cold/flu (kind of a combo- though I lean towards flu on this bad boy) as of yesterday late afternoon…

… and I think dot, dot, dot says it all. I got maybe 3hrs sleep last night and am starting to feel strain.

I’ll be back. When my brain is clear for writing and I can gather thoughts without being interrupted…

stuck

We’ve all been there- I’ve got a clog in the creative process. A lump ‘o gunk at the opening of the glue bottle. A backed up sink. The ideas are there, but they can’t get out. Very frustrating indeed!

I think it’s probably time to heed my own advice and work on something else, but I can’t quite bring myself to put this away.

002

It’s been on the desk 2 days now and I have spent an insane amount of time just getting it here. I want this page finished (I have the journaling in my head…) but I can’t take the next step.

I’m slow like molasses on a cold day.

What’s a girl to do? I have a couple creativity un-blocker ideas that I’ll share with you later today (after I try them)…

recap:

I liked the Twilight series quite a bit. Do I think Bella is one weak & lame heroine through 80% of the story? YEAH. Does Edward and his sleep watching/all knowing attitude creep me out at times? YEAH. Should somebody smack Rosalie good ASAP? FOR SURE. Ah but the story, the description, the intricate weaving of characters and story lines… it’s awesome.

In other words, I appreciated the story telling and world S.M. built very much… but don’t call me a fangirl. I don’t think Edward is the hottest romance hero – not even top 10. So… I decided to NOT see the movie. I just find the leading man sooo unattractive. blech. Then I needed a new Netflix film and felt like mocking… so I got it.

twilight-cast

Here’s the deal: it’s darn good. I sat down with this ready to mock… and instead I liked it. Everyone is EXACTLY as I pictured them, everything about Forks EXACTLY as I imagined. (Except Jasper & Rosalie… what’s up with them? He’s supposed to be a Civil War soldier and she the prettiest thing ever? nah.) Very rarely does a movie version capture the world as it was in my minds eye as reading. So that was really cool. I also appreciated how you NEEDED to watch every movement, reaction, and facial expression. Not just that, but the acting and filming was such that it was intense without being made for TV mock-tastic drama.

Mocking? The only thing – and it had me in tears laughing- was the crazy chimes ringing when Edward was in the sun. I don’t recall being told he sparkles and chimes as if a jewel in the cave of the 7dwarfs. That was a bad move. My only other complaints were that they didn’t have Edward do his talk about twilight (tie in to title… c’mon!) and they didn’t explain the meadow as a special place for Edward.

In other words, as book turned movie goes… it was good. I’d watch the next one, especially since (spoiler!!) I want to see how they do werewolves. I really want to see that.

I maintain that Edward/Robert is not a hottie – but that was my opinion in the book version as well so it fits.

new favorite pic.

So I realized that the headshot I use for bio/profile shots was taken back in 2006 and that maybe I could do a new photo since I have a camera and all. So I did. How does it go? Well I hold out my arm and take photos from slightly above myself or even with my face. NEVER FROM BELOW! Then I take about 100 more, each at slightly different angles of my head. Finally, I upload them all, pick the one I dislike least, and ta da! A new headshot is born.

TIP: I de-saturate by about 40%. This helps if you’re sunburned from a Giants game (whoops), or just want to make it a little more chilled out in color.

Fyi- I take them by myself because a certain husband is useless in such things. He’d either take photos with way too much background or make me laugh so much I look really dumb in every picture.

However… during this photo shoot a little 4 year old wandered in and asked for her photo. She wanted silly photos and told me “make a face like me mommy!”

I LOVE THIS!!!

Can you feel the silliness?

good times, and a photo I’m anxious to get scrapbooked…

I’m in.

First off, I get twitter. I like twitter. It’s like reading text messages from a number of my friends and also people who are just funny and/or entertain. Twitter is simple, straightforward, and quick. It’s got my seal of approval.

I never did myspace or any of those things- just never saw the point. Ah but I keep getting questioned as to why I am not on facebook, when will I be there, do I not realize all I’m missing out on?

Reluctantly so, I joined facebook a few weeks back. I used an alias so I could just pop on, check out the (work  related) content I promised I would on a group/fan page, and then sneak back out.

Today I realized that there indeed IS a bit more privacy/control as to who can see what about you and that made me make the executive decision to change my profile to add a photo + use my real and full name too. Ok, so the realization that perhaps I’m being a fuddy duddy old lady about this partially helped sway my decision.

So! If you’re a facebook girl (or guy, I suppose) then please do let’s be friends. Oh, and if you can explain to me WHY and WHAT the appeal is, I’d greatly appreciate it. Right now I still don’t get it, but I’m testing the waters anyway.

… and I’ll be back with reports as to how this cranky old lady is doing and what I think of it all…
