Happy HowlOWeen!

I’ve been playing around with coloring (need to keep strengthening my wrist!) + masking (need to up my skills!) and to celebrate Halloween and cute puppies I tried out some ideas on this card. Here is a link to my YouTube video creating this.

I’m bummed that my label idea didn’t work – but that’s ok! We’ve got to try new things to see if they work or not. Now as usual – disclaimer that I work with Brother as a paid consultant, but all ideas and opinions are my own. With the holiday season in full swing, I’m relying on my ScanNCut to help me create and customize fun details from cards to banners. Stay tuned for more ideas soon!

Stenciled candle with ScanNCut

This year I’ve decided the entire holiday season (beginning mid-November!) the house will be mostly gold/metallic with cream and a hint of green. There is a method to my madness you see, as we will be having a very untraditional season here and I want to maximize décor and minimize effort. So I’m going to be crafting (and sharing with you!) the pieces that I am adding in to my idea.

First up, I’m using my ScanNCut to deck out a battery operated candle that I have sitting and just begging for a makeover. (disclaimer, as usual, that I am a paid consultant for Brother, but all ideas and opinions are my own)

Here is a link to my YouTube video.

I am making an effort to use my stash – from cool materials like the stencil material that Brother makes (used in this video) to white battery operated LED candles I picked up for unknown reasons and never did anything with!

If you don’t have a dabber topped paint, a foam paint brush will work beautifully as well. I love what the layered flower adds to this project – watch for a tips & tricks for layered flowers video in the near future!

Until next time – I encourage you to look around and see what you can add a few hand crafted touches to!

My favorites: October 2016

Every time I check the news these days I cringe! So much hate, so much ugliness, and so depressing! Now I know life isn’t all sunshine and rainbows – believe me I know. But you know what? There are awesome things happening and creative people doing wonderful things too! World changing? Maybe not, but I thought I would share my “loving on” list in this moment.

Neat & Tangled made a cowbell stamp (referencing an old SNL skit that I loved)- and I had to have it! You can find it on their website or at retailers carrying their products now if you need one too. I can’t wait for a nice sunny day when I can sit down and make something with mine! (Yes, I’ll film a video to share).

November 25 brings us “year in the life” of Gilmore Girls. All new. It gives me all the giddy feels – thank you Netflix! (here’s the trailer on YouTube) The original show is one that I frequently enjoy while crafting so the chance for new? and with the whole cast? A reason to look forward to November!

Netflix also recently delighted me with “Haters Back Off” an 8-episode series that I hope we will get picked up again. Kind of a Napoleon Dynamite sort of funny – I’m always on the hunt for funny!

Next week I get to go to Orange County (with Miss E traveling as my assistant!) and teach my only classes of the year at Stamp Fever. After so many struggles with my wrist this year I am thrilled to spend some crafty time at a new to me shop and I can’t wait to meet the ladies there – and you can join in the fun if you’re local. Info is here. We are bagging up buttons and sequins and preparing kits this week.

Edna Mode – one of my favorite characters (Disney Incredibles) stars on this, my ultimate top. Now that the temps are cooling off I can finally start wearing it! I got it from the shop Disney parks app (a VERY DANGEROUS APP! LOL) – and it makes me smile every time.

WeRMemoryKeepers came out with typewriters and I never could find the pink one at my Michael’s (they were an exclusive)… ah but now they are hitting ALL store shelves in new colors like the mint you see here. Even better than pink in my mind, and I’ve ordered one from my local scrapbook shop and it should be here soon!

This is my list for right now this week – what is delighting you? See any good crafty videos or read any great books lately? Let me know! I’m all for sharing the fun and happy stuff…

ScanNCut: Fill Pattern

dsc_8214

How is it mid-October? The weeks are flying by in this my busiest and favorite month. I’ve been working on some tremendously fun projects for Brother. I am a paid consultant with them, and do create both content and projects as well as test stuff out with the ScanNCut – a job and product I ADORE! Anyhow the newest “yay” is playing with the features that are in the software update.  Have a ScanNCut? You can update your machine easily and in moments- look for the button at the left side of page to guide you through on the SNC website.

Now when there is a new to me anything, the first thing I do is test it out. Play. Try ideas. See what works. I don’t jump right in expecting finished projects, but rather I relax and take off all pressure!

Today I’m sharing a video on “fill pattern” – one of the new features that works with the universal pen holder accessory to add even more fun to your crafting game. Here is a link to my YouTube video.

As you can see it took a bit of adjusting – but that is ok! I kept all the scanning and trial/error in the video to show you not only does it not go perfectly the first time every time, but also that it’s ok to test and experiment! I am working on a fall jar project next that will utilize this technique, as well as some Thanksgiving fun and I will be sure to share those with you (next month).

In the meantime whether you have a tool or perhaps a color medium you have but haven’t learned yet, I encourage you to bust it out and give it a try today! You may surprise yourself or find a new favorite.
