Make your mark: creative play turned into a card

Some days, I just color and play. I might have an assignment for a company like Brother (disclaimer as usual that I am a paid consultant/brand ambassador but as always all ideas and opinions are my own), or I might have some free time and just want to mull  over color combinations or ideas in my head. I’m a huge fan of just take your time, play around, and see what happens.

But what happens when you finish watercoloring and find yourself with a usable image on a  page with many some good and some terrible?

Today’s answer: get out the ScanNCut! Here is a link to my YouTube video.

For something like this, a two-color small pattern background and just a few sequins was all I needed to turn this creative test into a card. I love how this turned out, and I hope I’ve inspired you either to cut loose and play a little more often, or to take your creative experiments and turn them into finished projects simply.

Have a wonderful week!

Fiesta watercolor card

Next week is May? How is that even possible?! I really couldn’t tell you as apparently time has just FLOWN right by me! Inspired by Cinco De Mayo, and “my” month I thought I’d get funky with Lawn Fawn + 28 Lilac Lane. note: affiliate links are used in this post. Thank you in advance for supporting my site if you choose to use them!

I decided I wanted to get wild with Fruity Fun bottle – one of my new ones – along with this piñata stamp from Lawn Fawn. I also knew I wanted an explosion of fun! Here is my YouTube video tutorial.

This turned out exactly how I had hoped! That so rarely happens – love it!

EllenHutson.com has the Fruity Fun bottle used, the Lawn Fawn stamp set, watercolors, gold spray, PPA adhesiveblack ink, distress inks, and so much more! Soon as I’m off my no spend challenge (more on that some other day)- I’ve got a cart full of goodies and her shipping is so fast! I can hardly wait.

Oh just a note – I did add the pink splatter you see here after filming. Intentional? Not quite… I was cleaning up spilled a bit then said oh to heck with it and went wild! Just a reminder you can always make it work. Have a wonderful party filled weekend!

Gryffindor scrapbook layout tutorial

I’m starting to get plans together for our big trip from 2016 and my scrapbook goals for it. There are absolutely TONS of stories from that trip and I really want to incorporate them as well as hundreds of photos. I’ll be doing a post on National Scrapbook Day explaining my favorite methods of scrapbooking as well as tips, tricks, and more. So stay tuned for that (and much more!)

For today, I am very excited to tell you that I’ve found a shop carrying my embellishment kits online (note: affiliate links used in this post thank you in advance for supporting my site!) and so I am celebrating with a layout tutorial. Here is my YouTube video.

This layout was a strange mix of things when I look at it – but it works for me! I love the grey + pink with the travel kit and the star of the show – these portrait photos from the Wizarding World of Harry Potter!

Supplies used (links to Scrapbook.com) include:

28 Lilac Lane “let’s go” kit
Oasis patterned paper
Maggie Holmes Stickers
BoBunny paper

I hope that you’ve enjoyed this peek inside my most recent vacation scrapbook – and the first look at this particular 28 Lilac Lane kit too! I’m excited to see the line showing up in stores. Be sure to tell me if you see it!

I’m also excited to tell you that I just got back from Scrapbook.com HQ where I was filming a new (Free!) online class! I will be sure to let you know when that class becomes available. Have a great day!

Mother’s Day Card

When it comes to creating with the ScanNCut (usual disclaimer – I am a paid consultant for Brother, but all ideas and opinions are my own) I love how any of my creative ideas can become reality, and easily!

Today I have created a card that could be any occasion – or for Mother’s Day featuring some butterfly stamps that I scanned (and cut) with the machine out of wood veneer paper. Here is a link to my full YouTube tutorial.

I really love how I am able to cut even stamps like this with a sketchy edge – and I really love the funky scratchy not so straight edge this particular stamp gave me.

Much as I love the butterflies and coloring with them – the gold thread is my favorite part of this project. I just adore adding wild threads here and there on a project, and it adds all the embellishment I need here! I hope I’ve inspired you with this card – are you a fan of butterflies in your crafting? Flowers? What is your favorite motif?

Teacup stamping fun

Hi there from Gilbert, Arizona! I’m here creating a new online class for Scrapbook.com (more on that later!) and was cleaning up some files and realized I have a fun card I’ve not yet shared! This is made with one of my favorite Pink Ink stamps – I just love this teacup + flowers!

The how-to is really quite easy as well – here is my YouTube tutorial.

This stamp inspires me to host a tea party just to use it for invites! I love utilizing my wood mounted stamps and I have so much fun with simple coloring like this. What is your favorite stamp to color?
