looking back: Hotel page

Continuing my look back at my Disney albums, here’s a page from early 2009…

I loved this page then, and I love it now. The use of the hotel folder that held our keys (both a chunk ‘as-is’ and my stars that were punched from it), the stitched ribbon (I NEED to do that again!), the sequins and buttons, and the simple background. Yes, I LOVE this page.

Would I change a thing? Just one. I wouldn’t have drawn lines for my journaling I would have just written. Other than that, this page remains one of my all time favorite Disney designs for the bits and pieces, the magical feel, and the simplicity too. I like that I didn’t force a title – instead I let the hotel name be enough. Sometimes, I don’t need to ‘make’ titles. That’s a good reminder.

challenge: Studio 490

New week… new challenge!! Head over immediately (if you’ve not done so already) and visit Simon Says Stamp & Show – we’re inspired by THE ALWAYS FABULOUS WENDY VECCHI! To start my post here today, I thought I’d share a few of my personal favorite Wendy products! Aside from being a creative maven and Ranger Senior Educator, Wendy designs stamps and her famous art parts and all kinds of treasures. Here are my faves:

So much fun stuff! I used my fave cancelled postage stamp and pocket watch to create my first holiday package topper of the year…

Supplies used:

My trick in making these is to design the background (in this case embossed with clear ‘cancelled postage’ stamp that is then coated with green distress stain) some fairly flat design, then I go ahead and glue the top piece to it and let it dry.

Once that happens – it’s play time! Sometimes I tape the outer edges together with foil tape, other times (like this) I just coat with paint or glitter. Then you’re free to play! Little bits, dimensional accents – you could make one of these lovelies for any reason, occasion, or person. I think putting a tiny photo can be fun, or using ephemera. Me? I used alcohol inks + glaze to colorize my metal accents, and I cut out words from patterned paper.

Wendy is such an inspiration – I hope you’ll JOIN US! The rules + post can be found over at the Stamp & Show blog. You want to enter because it is fun, plus Simon Says Stamp gives away (randomly) a $50 voucher each week to one lucky entrant!!! You can get all the details at the blog here.

product review: Martha Stewart glow-in-the-dark glitter

If you’re looking to make things sparkle a bit like sugar in the day, and light up at night then this is the way to go.

I wish I could show you what it does at night – but it has to be totally dark – which means I can’t photograph it!

Beyond Halloween I believe that this would be great for Christmas time or any holiday occasion that you’d want some glow to your night. I could see using this over letters on a canvas or wall piece, coating a pumpkin or skull decoration with it, or any other item that you’d have on display. I could also see decorating a die cut (maybe even a die cut garland!) and the ideas go on and on.

My real purpose in posting my positive review of this product is simply to tell you that YES, it works! It works really well actually I was amazed not only by how this whole jar sets my studio a-glow at night but how well the glitter works once applied. So if you’re looking into this and thinking “yeah, but does it work?” My answer is YEP!

Now, off to spook-i-fy our house…

I’m feeling travel inspired… let me share five travel inspired items that are on my noteable list at this moment…

The Diana Mini in Latitude. This little camera is just TOO cute. I wish I could justify having one, but I am pretty sure it’d just sit and be pretty on a shelf.

Love that Amy Tan put together this daybook kit, perfect for scrapbooking on the go! I think it would make an amazing gift for a teenager, for someone who is just starting to scrapbook, or just for yourself!

Looking for just a mini? Check out this Heidi Swapp little file mini!

Need a bag to-go? Pre-order one of these Tim Holtz totes! Or, for smaller things get this clutch!  I’m so tempted by both – but I think the clutch is my favorite.

Cavallini always makes my heart pitter-patter. Oh how I love their stuff! This travel notebook is on my wish-list for the next time I head on a trip. I love how it is decorated!

That’s my five for today – have a fantastic weekend!
