Happy HowlOWeen!

dsc_8377

I’ve been playing around with coloring (need to keep strengthening my wrist!) + masking (need to up my skills!) and to celebrate Halloween and cute puppies I tried out some ideas on this card. Here is a link to my YouTube video creating this.

I’m bummed that my label idea didn’t work – but that’s ok! We’ve got to try new things to see if they work or not. Now as usual – disclaimer that I work with Brother as a paid consultant, but all ideas and opinions are my own. With the holiday season in full swing, I’m relying on my ScanNCut to help me create and customize fun details from cards to banners. Stay tuned for more ideas soon!

Stenciled candle with ScanNCut

This year I’ve decided the entire holiday season (beginning mid-November!) the house will be mostly gold/metallic with cream and a hint of green. There is a method to my madness you see, as we will be having a very untraditional season here and I want to maximize décor and minimize effort. So I’m going to be crafting (and sharing with you!) the pieces that I am adding in to my idea.

First up, I’m using my ScanNCut to deck out a battery operated candle that I have sitting and just begging for a makeover. (disclaimer, as usual, that I am a paid consultant for Brother, but all ideas and opinions are my own)

Here is a link to my YouTube video.

I am making an effort to use my stash – from cool materials like the stencil material that Brother makes (used in this video) to white battery operated LED candles I picked up for unknown reasons and never did anything with!

If you don’t have a dabber topped paint, a foam paint brush will work beautifully as well. I love what the layered flower adds to this project – watch for a tips & tricks for layered flowers video in the near future!

Until next time – I encourage you to look around and see what you can add a few hand crafted touches to!

ScanNCut: Fill Pattern

dsc_8214

How is it mid-October? The weeks are flying by in this my busiest and favorite month. I’ve been working on some tremendously fun projects for Brother. I am a paid consultant with them, and do create both content and projects as well as test stuff out with the ScanNCut – a job and product I ADORE! Anyhow the newest “yay” is playing with the features that are in the software update.  Have a ScanNCut? You can update your machine easily and in moments- look for the button at the left side of page to guide you through on the SNC website.

Now when there is a new to me anything, the first thing I do is test it out. Play. Try ideas. See what works. I don’t jump right in expecting finished projects, but rather I relax and take off all pressure!

Today I’m sharing a video on “fill pattern” – one of the new features that works with the universal pen holder accessory to add even more fun to your crafting game. Here is a link to my YouTube video.

As you can see it took a bit of adjusting – but that is ok! I kept all the scanning and trial/error in the video to show you not only does it not go perfectly the first time every time, but also that it’s ok to test and experiment! I am working on a fall jar project next that will utilize this technique, as well as some Thanksgiving fun and I will be sure to share those with you (next month).

In the meantime whether you have a tool or perhaps a color medium you have but haven’t learned yet, I encourage you to bust it out and give it a try today! You may surprise yourself or find a new favorite.

When it comes to home décor, these days I love the battery operated candles. No flames, no worries, and all kinds of crafty fun! I’ll be sharing several ideas and alterations to them over the next few weeks to really show you how much fun you can have customizing these. To kick it off, here’s a really short one.

Here is my video on YouTube.

How easy was this? I just love how it turned out and you can see that vellum is the perfect choice for a little faux-votive type candle like this. I believe this kind is meant to go inside a pumpkin – but why wait for Halloween night? Get some cardstock and vellum out, and enjoy right away.

note: as always I disclaim that I am a paid consultant for Brother. That said, all ideas and opinions are my own including my love of this awesome machine!

Doggie bone wreath

dsc_7612

A friend of mine got a new puppy, and I wanted to send her a doggie bone wreath. This is a project that I recall us making when I was a kid and selling at craft fairs – a really simple concept but it is totally dependent on having a perfect circle template. You’ll also want it to be a good width as well. Tool for the job? ScanNCut of course!

Here is my video (link to YouTube) tutorial video.

Once done, I added a toy and a card to this before mailing off.

How to make a card like mine? Check out my post/video from a few weeks back here.

As you know (and I always disclose) I am a paid consultant for Brother, however all ideas and opinions here on my blog are my own. Oh, and one more thing! ScanNCut has a very limited time discount offer!
