Adventure card

084

Today I wanted to share a card I made, where I played with and mixed my medias to create an interesting background. The big thing with mixed media (to me) is to remember there isn’t a RULE. It doesn’t have to be anything. You don’t have to intentionally do it or think too hard about it. The WONDERFUL thing about it for me is that mixing your inks, paints, gels, stitching, and other mediums is that you can get amazing results.

Background how-to:

1. Stamp with dark green ink the ticket background stamp

2. Color entire surface with blending tool + distress ink.

3. Use stencil + gel medium and apply thin layer. set aside to dry.

4. Once dry, color with brown and darker blue/turquoise distress ink

5. Stamp with black archival ink (circles) over the top

6. Squirt with perfect pearls mist

7. Use distress tool on edges, stitch paper to front of card.

I added paper bits from my stash, as well as a distressed + stamped scrap of paper with “a great adventure” stamped onto it to finish up my card.

note: the background stamp I used (tickets) is from the new Basic Grey collection and I didn’t find an online source, but it should be coming soon!

Monday + May [new project + code!]

MondaysWithMay

I can’t believe it is the last Monday in May!! I’ve got my last post in this series up at the Simon Says Stamp blog today – any guesses as to what I spotlight?

If you guessed Tim Holtz products – you’d be right! I created a new scrapbook layout just for the blog. You can check that out here. I mention in that post – one of my favorite things to do when working with Tim Holtz products is to bring in the pink! With Picked Raspberries distress it makes it even easier to get bold and hot pink too! Here’s a card inspired by that color using the stain, ink pad, and paint.

I used the stain + water for a diluted background. Then I added rub-ons and colored with the ink over the whole surface. Finally, I painted over lightly to take the sharp blackness away from the rubs.

Then it was a matter of assembling some favorite bits, and of course adding a few favorite details. Here are the supplies I used –

Mondays with May: Amy Tangerine (and a discount code!)

It’s Monday, and it’s still my month and I’m over sharing yet another project at the Simon Says Stamp blog. This week it is all about Amy Tangerine – true story I scrapbooked more with Amy’s products last year than ANY OTHER! Why? well she’s got a fantastic mix of colors + patterns and they go so well not just with each other but other brands and lines too. As a scrapbooker she’s got such a great style and that definitely shines in her products.

Here’s a card I made (with some surprisingly easy stitching too!) to share here today.

For two more new (and exclusive) projects, hop on over to the Simon blog where you can see them. Amy’s stitching templates has me inspired to branch out on my own once again (as I did here) and add more texture to my projects. I like to do this when watching TV – gives my hands something to do!
