Fabric Elements by Rebekah Meier

Know what I love? Playing with color + texture + mixing my mediums. So when I got an email asking if I’d like to blog about the Rebekah Meier mixed media line? Sure thing! I wasn’t sure what would be in the package I was sent – but I was excited to try something new and embrace a new adventure. Today I’ve got a bit of information to share including a new challenge/contest for this line, as well as two mixed media cards.

The products were developed by Rebekah Meier following the success of her books about Fabric Art Collage. There are 32 SKUS now on sale at Joann Fabric and Craft stores, and also a new book by Rebekah called “Techniques in Mixed Media” which shows step-by-step mixed media projects. The products include pre-cut substrates such as Wool Felt, Lutradur, Peltex, Batting, Waffle Muslin, Osnaburg, all in neutrals so that ANYTHING can be created. There is also tissue and stencils designed by Rebekah Meier as well.

I really love the colors that are used, but also that there is so much neutral in this product line so that I can do anything! I ended up being most inspired by the stencil – and I really love the size of this stencil. If you’ve been following my blog you know already I’m a HUGE fan of her stencils in general – such amazing detail and it just speaks to my inner artist. So I was excited to layer the various images from this stencil. My approach for this was to use paste, inks, and sprays to vary the color intensity and texture.

I could talk all day about my favorites – from the wool felt (a favorite supply in general!) to the trims to the tissue… so here’s a quick video walk-through of the products I tried as well as a bit of card making fun:

Two new projects up today at ACMoore

800px_mainimage copy

We don’t have ACMoore here – which is a shame! The few times I’ve visited I really do enjoy that craft store! If you’re lucky enough to have one near you – they have a display full of my favorite buttons! Yep, Buttons Galore & More buttons can be found there including some of my favorites like this set.

Why do I bring up a store I don’t have here in California? Because I’ve got two new projects up on their website! The card you see above can be found here (with how-to). There is also a back to school clipboard. You can find that here.

Stay tuned – I’ll be having more button-tastic projects coming soon!

Wplus9 fall leaves: video tutorial

Who’s ready for a quick technique video? I ended up finishing this into a card – well a card front. I need to mount it still. Really liking these Wplus9 stamps though!

These stamps are available directly from Wplus9, and from retailers (affiliate links) like Ellen Hutson and Simon Says Stamp. I really love all the possibilities, and how this first card came out as well.

Celebrate: Balloon layering card tutorial

DSC_5044

I have been playing around with how to (QUICKLY) layer and build a bouquet… so when the new Simon Says Stamp September card kit (affiliate link) got here, I saw the balloon stamps and thought that would be a perfect way to test/play more with my distress ink method! Basically, you want to distress ink stamp then clear emboss your top layer, then repeat for as many layers as you have.

Not quite following? NO problem! I’ve created a video to share the process:

Love how this one turned out – and I’m going to get back to building flower bouquets this way! You can bet I’ll share a project once finished. Speaking of finished, here’s my card-

I really like that this stamp set came with outline + filled in balloons. Such fun!

First day of school teacher cards

First of all pause: How am I the mom to a 3rd and 5th grader?! I really don’t know how time went and flew so fast…

card1_detail

More than once I’ve thought to myself that I ought to drop a hello note introducing myself and thanking (in advance) the teachers on the first day. Thing is… I always think this thought oh as I’m driving home after the first day.

No more! So on the final day of summer break I sat down with a “hello” stamp (old one from Elle’s Studio) and played for a while.

The cards you see here are the 4th and 5th attempt. #1-3 were bombs! That’s ok! I was trying a few different things and I’m always happy to do tests and trials with new ideas most especially.

But wait, there’s more! I created a tutorial so if you’d like to watch my process here you go! (link to YouTube)

Now, off to school and to drop these cards!
