CHA 2015: Shimelle “True Stories” For American Crafts

I’m not really a “baby” person. Oh sure they’re cute but no I don’t generally seek them out. Here’s one that is an exception. We’ll get to the paper goodness… but oh my. “Wonder Boy” aka son of the fantastic Miss Shimelle is so cute, and so very full of personality. Most of the time if I walked by he was there, just hanging out and playing with paper or smiling up a storm. It was so great to meet him after spending last show with his (very pregnant) mom!

What were Shimelle and the Wonder Boy there selling? Her new collection True Story by American Crafts. This collection is very Shimelle, but it is also very scrapbooker positive.

What I mean by that is sometimes I feel like even “scrapbooking” paper lines are made for cards or project life or other stuff, and it was so refreshing and honestly a relief to find a line that was clearly made with a story telling scrapbooker in mind. In bold colors no less.

There are some fun touches that hit upon hot trends right now like tea and coffee cups.

Wooden bits and enamel dots.

Oh yes, and the perfect silver glittery (but glitter that won’t rub off all over you) album!!

I’m very excited about this album and shall be ordering at least 6. No, I’m not kidding.

Oh and yes. Let’s talk about the wood strips. Why haven’t I ever seen these done before? Good job, Shimelle!

There are just so many fun papers from one that suggests cupcakes for breakfast (a good choice always) to this coffee cup paper.

While I mentioned I feel this is a very scrapbook focused line, it 100% would be useful to all kinds of paper crafters!!

The silver glitter album and thickers, wood bits, and the sticker book (with stickers made for layering!) are probably my favorite item from this release but frankly I could see myself working with any and all items.

Seriously – just the cutest little guy….

My best wishes to Shimelle and her darling family for safe travels back across the pond. Also, may Shimelle get time to continue making these fabulous collections – I hope to see many more.

  1. I love it all and can’t wait to see this collection in stores!! (May, I’m really enjoying your reviews. Great photos and summaries!! Thank you!!)

  2. I, too, think your photos and reviews are awesome. I love this line. I feel I can use this for every topic I can think of. Thanks for your awesome coverage. Michelle t

  3. I agree…Wonder Boy is cute cute cute…in fact almost as cute as my grandson who is the same age. No bias with this grandma at all.
I love the colors and themes of Shimelle’s new line so will be looking forward to seeing it in the coming months! Thanks again for all the good reports.

  4. Ok I was alittle ho-hum about Shimelles new line.. but now I want it all after the way you described it!! And is she and wonderboy the cutest in their matching outfits????

  5. Oh, what an absolute cutie!! 🙂 Great photos of Wonder Boy 🙂

…and AMEN to your statement that it was “refreshing and honestly a relief to find a line that was clearly made with a story telling scrapbooker in mind.”

It’s been a long while since I’ve had the space or time to devote to scrapbooking, but I am hoping that’s about to change. And when I have the space (and steal the time), I am 100% ready to go back to what I guess is called “traditional” scrapbooking. Pocket scrapping is great for certain things, but it doesn’t light my fire. In my “time away,” it’s been a bit dismaying to see pockets becoming the dominant style, but I’m glad to see that this line still would be awesome for 12x12s 🙂

  6. Such great photos – thanks May! And I love, love, love this line. I’ll be ordering the whole lot I think!
