layered star

Feels like it’s time to share a new design team project! Here’s one I just finished…

It’s pretty simple! Take wood stars + Authentique paper and a craft knife…

go to town. enjoy!

kits are up!

This was the weather today. The view as I was standing over my layouts trying to get enough light to photograph them. WHAT?! It’s nearly July… this is unheard of here. Oh well.

Well, it kept me inside and I’ve been cleaning up and putting stuff away like crazy. Also updating the ‘ol shop…

The extra kits I have from last weekend’s classes are up on etsy – http://www.etsy.com/shop/mayflaumdesigns

I have a few of the hodge podge mini + kraft class. Awesome deals… and there are still a few goodies up from spring classes…

as always – if you questions, want to buy something without going through etsy, etc… just drop me a line at mflaum @ comcast . net

happy krafting

more kraft giftwrap…

I thought a lot about this one, and ultimately went with kraft. I used paper bags vs actual wrapping paper…

I also grabbed a rubber spatula (thanks Martha Stewart!) at Macy’s to top my gifts, as well as some doilies, kraft twine (ribbon?), orange lace, and loads of tape. When wrapping for a wedding, use TAPE!!! Cards can come loose, things get bumped around… make it secure. It’s got a journey from the wedding to the bride & groom’s home where they’ll find and open it after their honeymoon.

My tag was made with Studio Calico letter stickers (love) which I removed after misting heavily. I also stamped with a memory box butterfly, and added a Girls Paperie star to the very top (using LOTS of tape). It is deceptively simple – this one took me some time and thought to figure out!! In the end I love the way it turned out.

Even better? Jason (aka mr. never impressed) was VERY impressed and commented even. I smiled and said “what’s the point of being crafting as much as I do if you can’t kick some butt in wrapping up gifts?” It gets better – because upon arriving at the wedding my gift SO fit into their whole wine country rustic elegant look.

Score one for the crafter.

last week…

I wasn’t here. Oh I scheduled blog posts – but I wasn’t actually at home! Reno Rodeo, eating at great restaurants including 2 that had been featured on one of our favorite shows (Diners, Drive ins, and Dives), a wedding, a great day of teaching classes at Scrapbook Island… yeah… I’ve been GONE! It’s good to be home.

It’s also good to be editing and checking out my week in photos. I used my iphone a lot, and it’s definitely time to order some prints too!!! Right now I’m deciding if we do some in-depth coverage of vacation wild week a la flaum here on the blog, or just detail it through my scrapbook layouts.

For the moment I’ll bask in the glory of being AT HOME, and then take a peek at that scary to-do list I left behind…

Suggested Summer reads: June 25 edition

bit of magic, hint of romance, and three favorite books to share today…

On the Edge by Ilona Andrews
I recommend EVERYTHING by this husband/wife writing team so far. This is the first novel in their “Edge” series. It’s part romance, part fantasy, pure awesome. Action packed, amazing detail and world building, and a novel I loved from first to last page. The heroine is a strong magically gifted woman that lives in the area between the normal (aka non-magical world we know) and the weird wild magical realm. I also read, loved, and recommend the second book in the series- Bayou Moon. It’s kind of a hard series to explain – but if you’re a fan of darker, more paranormal/fantasy type fiction this could be your next favorite too.

The Sugar Queen by Sarah Addison Allen
What I love most is how this author infuses magic into her stories without spells or making it about that. Magic simply IS. In this story, we meet a sad girl who prefers winter because she can cover up and go hide in her closet eating chocolates and generally ignoring the real world. One day a woman appears in her closet, and everything starts changing… the real beauty is that our heroine is in fact the one who’s mixing up her world – not any magic. Between the memorable cast of characters and touching tale, I really enjoyed this book!

Every Boy’s Got One by Meg Cabot
One of my all time favorite romantic comedies, this one is told as diary entries and emails… and it’s awesome. The heroine runs off to Italy with her best friend and her fiancée to witness their marriage! So romantic, so exciting… except for the guy’s best friend who is totally against the whole thing but coming along as the best man. It’s funny, it’s light, it’s totally adorable. I read this when it first came out back in ’05, and I STILL read + love it every summer.

That’s what I’ve got for this week in summer reading suggestions – enjoy! and as always if you have suggestions don’t hesitate to share!
