I haven’t been reading all that much… well by my standards. I got an e-mail from a blog reader asking “so whatcha reading?!” and I honestly couldn’t answer. I’ve no idea what will be next. I think it’ll be one of these:
I was thinking about starting a new book and these were my finalists. See… I’m big on pulling out a few books and then deciding. Also? This one time I did NOT HAVE A BOOK TO READ… and it traumatized me. So now I have several TBR (to be read) piles. 1) my little bookshelf that holds ‘haven’t read yet’ books and 2) my goodreads ‘to read’ that holds many want to read/find/own books waiting on availability or budget. ANYHOW.
Then I got asked “what would you suggest for summer reading?”
To which I answer – well what is it you want?! There are a few favorites I pulled out from my bedside table shelf pictured above. It’s only a few, because dears my suggested booklist is… long. Also it depends on who I’m suggesting for.
Then I got sad that I’ve not read a great book in a while… cuz I’ve not been reading. So I decided to step away from the computer and get some work done so that I could afford some reading time.
What are YOU reading? What do you suggest?
Jane Dean recommend Diana Galbaldon to me as I am a big Barbara Erskine fan. I’ve just finished the 1st in her series Cross stitch and it hasn’t disappointed. Book 2 is on order.

Having just met the Queen last week on her visit to Canada, I’m in royalty mode. Thought I’d browse the bookstore for something on the royal family – don’t suppose you’ve anything to suggest?

May, in your summer reading suggestions – I have to say there are only 4 that I haven’t read. All the others are great read ! Diana Galbaldon IS fantastic. I’ve got all of your books in the Cross Stitch series and just love them ALL. The newest one out I had to reread them all before I could start it. That took a couple of weeks !! I’m now reading The Russian Concubine by Kate Furnivall. It’s fantastic ! It’s a love story set in China and I can’t put it down. Apparently the author has written 2 other books to follow on from this. I was in the bookshop yesterday and discovered that but still didn’t get them !! VERY refrained.
OMG! I have never laughed so hard in all my life as I did reading Can You Keep a Secret!!!!
You will enjoy The Fixer Upper – I loved the description of the remodeling they did in the house.
The only one I can think of is a Phillipa Gregory (I think that’s her name) novel that I really, really hated. It was very, errr… TMI. I don’t need to know about ‘tampons’ of that time period, thanks! Oh I feel gross just remembering that book!! But was historical and had king/queen/England royals…

I LOVED Kitchen Confidential… in an “oh my gosh, I will never eat _____ again!” kind of way. So informative, so utterly fascinating. It’s been years- I should reread it.
Anthony is a bad boy and a great writer! I love his books and his trave/eating/cultural exploration show No Reservations.
I am enjoying Barbara Kingsolvers Animal Vegetable Wonderful, and in conjunction with that, Michael Pollans Omnivore’s Dilemma. This is long, and challenging – just because it has made me shift so much in my thinking and acting on what I read that I only read it in small doses!
I LOVE to read, as you do, and have way tooooo many on the stack. Currently listening to “Beatrice and Virgil” by Mann Yartel (I am Pi author) which is very interesting. On the plane to convention I plan to read “Savor the Moment”, book three in the Bride Quartet by Nora Roberts which is a wonderful series.
For book club lots of others in the wings….
Anything by Robin Carr! Read Virgin River. I have read all of her books over the past couple years and love them.
Mary Kay Andrews is always good, as is Jane Austen (of course). I enjoyed “The DaVinci Code,” until it went beyond my suspension of disbelief. Right now I’m working on the Mary Russell /Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King. They are addicting!
I’m reading “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night” by Mark Haddon which is really interesting. Another Diana Gabaldon fan chiming in too
I have only read a few of the book you showed but I would highly recomend can you keep a secret I remember laughing a lot – may have to check it back out from the library. Di Vinci Code was also good – stayed up very late while I was reading it.
May – I haven’t been to your blog in a while and I just got to this post. I’m actually reading “The Other Side of the Story” by Marian Keyes. I saw it on your pile so I thought I’d comment. So far it’s good but it’s a long one and I usually only have time for one chapter a night. At this rate it will be a while before I’m finished.
I loved the Hunger Games and after you read that one your next one to read is Catching Fire, loved these 2. The third one is set to release at the end of summer. Should be a quick read for you I do believe! I will be checking out some of your other suggestions as well! Looks like some great reads!
Read The Hunger Games! It was awesome! The sequel Cathing Fire was also amazing, and the thrid book in the trilogy is coming out in August!
I have to thank you for the “Agnes and the Hitman” by Jennifer Cruisie, I’ve been reading through her books. Recently found a book at the local library “Hello Kitty Must Die” by Angela S. Cho and so far it’s been a pretty entertaining book. I had to try it for the title alone! Just finished the latest Nora Roberts “The Search” and Elizabeth Lowe’s “Death Echo” both good reads like you expect from these authors!
