I have said it before, sewing is not easy. Ah but here’s the thing. Every time I do a project I get a little faster, a little less frustrated, and a little teeny bit better. The more I think about it, the more it makes sense. I’m bad because I’ve barely done anything! How many scrapbook layouts did I make before I started teaching classes? 100? 300? It was a lot, and I should expect no less from a different craft. (note to self: DUH!)
Just like mastering any art – gardening, cooking, baking, scrapbooking, or SEWING – to name a few – practice brings better skills and better skills brings good things.
So, my goal is to sew at least five times a week. A partial project, simple project, repair, or just practicing with a scrap. I will practice.
Today I made an 18″ pillow case, complete with a fold-over 3 button closure. I used 3 different stitches, layered on fabric and ribbon, and I love how it turned out. It was supposed to be a housewarming gift for my mom, but I don’t know… I do love it…
Tomorrow will = paper craft day and yes, I will share results!)
Until then, whatever you’re creating I hope you have fun and enjoy the process.
HOLY COW! I more than like it a lot… I LOVE it. Is that a printed fabric? The fabric is fantastic. And, May, you did something that I am never very successful at: sewing on ribbon as a decorative touch. Nice work. And your decorative stitches look fabulous as well.
Yep, keep it and make another one for your mom. That is a GREAT idea – and the more you repeat a project, the better you will be with the little things that make it special, i.e., sewing on ribbon and the decorative stitches – two not so easy aspects of sewing. (But I am addicted to the decorative stitches, so nothing can keep me away from those!)
This is awesome, May! Lov ethe little details! 🙂 I’ve been sewing a lot lately too! 🙂
OMword..that is beautiful ! I want it! I love that seed packet material ! Whoo whee !! And those buttons are cool !
You did a great job May !
So cute! You are doing great with your sewing!
Love that fabric and Kudos for sticking with it – I would of gave up a looonnngg time ago!!!!
I LOVE your pillowcase. I FINALLY took my sewing machine that I bought myself for Christmas (on Black Friday!) out of the box this weekend and watched the DVD – threaded the bobbin and machine and did practice stitches on a scrap of paper.
Now to do a project or sew on a LO.
Super cute pillowcase! I love all the details you included.
Just lovely May you are getting better at that sewing soon you will be a pro at it.
love this pillow! I too have been beating my head against my sewing machine trying to get better. My problem with sewing is the whole “measurement” thing, I’m not real accurate so it’s a problem 🙂
L*O*V*E the pillow! I wouldn’t have been able to part with it either. =)
Great pillow. Thanks for the sewing advice. I need to heed your advice because each time I go back to sew again I feel like I’m starting back at square one.
Very cute indeed ! Love the fabric you chose !! I would want to keep it too !
