card making: Winnie & Walter stamps

Can you create with a bit of ink, a few little embellishments, and a sentiment stamp? Of course you can! Card making can be a lot of fun and I’m one to get intensely complex and wild with my cards at times… but I also like the simple side! Today I’m featuring a beautiful Winnie & Walter set – and stay tuned because they have a discount code AND two give-aways to share today!

Inking, coloring – it can all get pretty time intensive. But sometimes I really like a clean and simple look that is also quick and easy. The answer? I start with the message or sentiment. On this card I used the sentimental love set – I love Winnie & Walter’s sentiment stamps! Here is my YouTube video sharing how-to for these cards.

There is no wrong way – heck you could stamp over tape or patterned paper… you don’t even have to use color mediums!

Your challenge: Use a sentiment stamp in some way. Could be on a card – or anywhere else

Bonus! Winnie & Walter is offering us all a coupon code for 10% off all in stock items:

we{love}campscrap2017

This code is good through July 30th 2017 – so you’ve got time to shop and enjoy!

Give-away time x2. They are generously offering up two $25 credit (aka gift card) to the w&w shop! For your chance to win simply leave a comment on this post before July 15th. The winner will be announced in the July 16th round-up post.

Good luck – and thank you to Winnie & Walter for being such an awesome & generous company!

make a plan: mini travel planner

Welcome to the start of Camp Scrap week #2! For more details about what this blog event is all about click here. Note – affiliate links are used in this post. Thank you in advance should you choose to use them – they help support this blog and events like Camp Scrap!

Today I’m inspired by some new Lawn Fawn products including their new vacation planning stamps which they’ve generously donated for a give-away today.  What I love about this stamp set is how many ways I can already see for utilizing them.

I see using them in my calendar (planner), but I also see using them in mini-books, in my scrapbook, on pocket pages, and even on a card. For today I wanted to create a tiny “planner” of sorts for next year’s Hawaii trip. Like any project my process went like this:

  • How much information do I have?
  • How much space will I need?
  • Is this a long term/permanent project or short term/disposable project?

Small since this will be a stay at a time share and relaxing beach trip, short term it isn’t a forever heirloom project – but possibly utilize parts in a bigger/post trip project. Knowing this I got out some manila tags and got to work. Here is a link to my YouTube video sharing how I’m putting this book together.

I am so happy with how this turned out – and I’ve already filled in the details I have as well as made myself notes for things I need to arrange/set up down the road.

Lawn Fawn planner stamps, Lawn Fawn aloha and palm tree dies are the stars of today’s post. I also used archival ink in black (a must!), colored my dies with some favorite Lawn Fawn ink colors including guava and jalapeno.  All of those links lead to EllenHutson.com – a site that always has the Lawn Fawn goodies I need and wraps everything so beautifully! You can also find them at all the best shops (my LSS carries them now -yay!) including other online shops like scrapbook.com – here’s a link to them for the planner stamps.

In my experience planning for a good vacation is best done in small amounts of time, as far in advance as you know the trip will happen. I personally use trip planning as a reward – I love it! Having a cute spot to record details and “don’t forget…” helps too. So often we’ll see a good place to eat or visit on TV or talking with a friend and we’d forget if not for some kind of planner.

Not into vacations or planning? Today’s project could also inspire you to create a mini book! Notice how I used various bits of paper, die cuts, even a few letter stickers in addition to black ink and the stamps. This could be a “tag book” with photos and journaling instead of a mini trip planner.

When it comes to trip planning – honestly I have almost as much fun with this part as I do being on the trip. Researching hotels, finding delicious food, getting great seats to a sold out show… it’s the most fun kind of planning edging out planning a vacation scrapbook after ever so slightly. You know I think I could be happy just planning, taking, and scrapbooking travels if only that was a full time job!

Here are 3 tips for happy travels:

  1. Start EASY. Sure you’ll land at noon, but if you won’t be at the hotel until 2-3pm at best… maybe don’t cram in an afternoon tour and feel stressed out on arrival “will we make it?!” far better to relax with the plans and “wait and see” what time you actually are ready to rock.
  2. Have a plan B and C. Sometimes someone gets sick, there is a thunder storm, or you just don’t feel like eating at the place you’d planned. Know and have some backup options! From Disney World to NYC I can’t tell you how many times my “backups” saved the sanity and meltdowns of someone in my family. Oh the stories I could tell you… perhaps I’ll start a “plan B” vacation scrapbook album.
  3. Enjoy whatever you do. It won’t ever be perfect whether you’ve got a hotel room that has a ‘charming’ whirring sound of the elevator motors or someone gets sick and has to lay low… the trip doesn’t have to be a bust. Find the fun, enjoy the travel time and adventure – and don’t forget to scrapbook it when you return!

Give-away time! Lawn Fawn sent me two of these planner stamp sets. What’s a crafter to do? SHARE of course!! I’ll be including some manila tags and a few surprise goodies that I think are just perfect for vacation planning along with this stamp set. How to win it? For your chance to win leave a comment here and a winner will be drawn at random and announced on the July 16th round-up post.

stamping: waffle flower set two ways

Welcome to Camp Scrap! For more details about this special blog event, prizes, community, and more check out the FAQ page here. Note that affiliate links are used in this post – thank you in advance for supporting my blog should you choose to use them!

Today is a good day to play with some new stamps, don’t you think? I pulled out a really cute new set from Waffle Flower (give-away from them below – so don’t run off!) and started playing. I tried a number of things that I wasn’t happy with. But this – oh the white embossing + bright colors and watercolor splatter I just adore how it turned out and that it can be used for not only a card, but I’ll also show you a card that would work in a pocket page scrapbook. Techniques have a way of working across many project types!

This set is the “Happy Day” stamp set. It’s available online at Waffle Flower directly, you can also get it at shops like Ellen Hutson  and scrapbook.com as well.

My challenge to you today (should you choose to accept it): keep at it with one stamp. Here in my case it was the sentiment “today is a good day to be happy”. I didn’t love it in color or black… then I tried white embossing powder. Total win!

Here is my YouTube video tutorial where I walk though two similar projects.

Now I can see using those colors that “didn’t work” on future projects. It isn’t that they were bad ideas. They just didn’t work for the bright look I wanted. I am forever saying that sometimes my mistakes = what I learn from way more creatively. So don’t run or worry – embrace and enjoy it! I am so loving these projects – they came out even better than my original vision all because I kept on testing and trying.

This particular stamp set has so much potential for fun – one challenge to myself on this one was focusing on the little stamps and not the big (awesome) stamps. So there’s a side/secondary challenge for you. What can you do with the little often forgotten stamps in a set? The real challenge of course is usually making creative time – so I hope you find some this weekend!

Oh yes- and don’t get frustrated or quit – just play and see what happens. If nothing is working try switching gears or just play with something else. Remind yourself we can learn a lot from things that don’t work, and that those “oh this is terrible” experiments may actually be wonderful in some other way on another day. I’ve so enjoyed this first week of Camp Scrap and sharing with you – and I hope you’ve enjoyed it too!

The stamp set used in this post is by Waffle Flower, and you have the chance to win this (or ANY set you’d like!) because Waffle Flower is offering a $25 gift certificate to www.waffleflower.com! For your chance to win leave a comment on this post and I will post a winner on the July 2 round up post. Good luck! and Huge THANK YOU to Waffle Flower for this generous gift!

Mixed Media: mixing colors with Prima Marketing

Fridays here at Camp Scrap will be freaky! Well, maybe not in a body swapping way but I will be playing with mixed media. What is mixed media? Quite simply, it is mixing & matching various mediums. There are NO rules as to what you can mix and match. NO rules about what you make. So this is definitely my kind of craft! If you’ve been following my blog or YouTube then you already know this is my kind of crafty jam!

Above you can see my starting point and inspiration – a new stamp and paints sent to me by my friends at Prima Marketing. What to do? Well let’s get out more Prima mediums and play! Here is a link to my YouTube video showing several mediums and a few ways I love to mix & match things too!

Looking for something I used? (affiliate) links to Scrapbook.com are here – they’ve got a huge selection of Prima products including Impasto paints (I used Jade, Cobalt, and Heather), metallic watercolors, watercolor palettes, oil pastels, water brushes, and of course ‘girl’ stamps like the one I used. I also mentioned manila tags, and I used archival ink (remember it’s good because it doesn’t react to water based mediums) for my stamp.

Are you wishing you could find out more ASAP about mixing & matching your color mediums? Playing with dimensional projects and more techniques? Well EVERYONE gets a prize today!! I partnered with scrapbook.com to film a mixed media basics class and it is now ready for you – free of charge. Click here to enroll in this new class now – for free! Our gift today to you.

No I’m not kidding, and yes it’s absolutely FREE! It’s packed with so many projects and ideas for all types of crafting. I worked so many hours, weeks, and days on it and the scrapbook.com team has worked hard taking all of that content and making it into a class! I really hope you enjoy it – and I hope you’ll let me know which lesson is your favorite!

Remember you can sign up today (free) right here. In the middle of Camp Scrap here, but hey we can all always use more (free!) inspiration, right? I hope you enjoy class, and that you’re enjoying the ideas right here on my blog. Have a great weekend!
