Thankful card featuring Tim Holtz Feather Duo

thankful2

One of my favorite ways to utilize my Tim Holtz texture folders is by making a card – they are the perfect size, after all! Today I’ve got an autumn inspired one – and I’m using (for the first time!) the feather duo that came with both die cuts and the texture folder to make them really have great detail. So impressed!

I added pops of metal, brown, and green in my embellishment cluster to balance out all those lovely shades of persimmon and marmalade.

The finished results! I love how this turned out, and the choice to add last minute wood and beads was a good one – this cluster needed that texture pop. Most of the embellishments are older and were found by diving through my lovely tacklebox drawers ‘o buttons and things. Love embellishing this way!

Are you in tried & true cards class yet?! Well This and so many more cards will be featured. You can find all of the info for that class coming in November, as well as my ongoing layouts class craftwithmay.com

Key supplies used:
Any dye ink would work – I used Tim Holtz Distress inks (available pretty much everywhere!), an odd assortment of leaves and wood veneer hearts, a few buttons and beads, and of course my beloved Tim Holtz seasonal chit-chat stickers! The background texture folder and feather die+ texture folder combo that I used are also both Tim Holtz, and available lots of shops – some affiliate links listed below.

DSC_7230

Who’s ready for fall? Me!! As you know (disclaimer) I do work with Brother, and they provided me with the amazing ScanNCut2 650w machine that you’re going to see here today in action for the very first time! Of course all the ideas and opinions here are always my own. Oh but who wants to hear me talk? You want to see this baby in action…

(link to YouTube)

I am so in love with the new designs, and if you’ve been hearing all the buzz about the new SNC then you want to stay tuned – TONS of videos coming! This is barely the beginning.

I made the so fun pillow (above) with basic shapes + some hand drawn elements turned rhinestone pattern! Not into stitching? Check it out anyhow – you can so make a pumpkin like that from paper! Also, I have a table runner that I accented with flowers, buttons, rhinestones, and more! Want to see that project tutorial? It’s on the site too! You can see all these projects plus those of my fellow SNC designers here.

I always say plan ahead as you’re able. Today is a perfect example! I haven’t even loaded the video I wanted to post… what is a blogger to do?

I look into my bag ‘o not yet posted tricks and pull something fun out!

Spooky (Halloween) card with 2015 Tim Holtz products

Are you on Periscope? It’s a new to me social media app where someone (like me) can broadcast live and chat, craft, and share! I have the user name @craftwithmay there (same as my instagram) – it works best on a smart phone or iPad, but you can also check it out online here. I bring this up because a week or two ago I posted a video of coloring the crow you see on the card below!

Not on periscope or missed it? NO worries! Here’s a link to my YouTube tutorial video.

This turned out even better than I imagined – such a fun card to make! I used gold acrylic paint around the edge (and over the word) – always a great product to add special touches to any product!

The Tim Holtz crow (blueprint) stamp, new halloween charm, trim, paper, and bits, not to mention the “spooky” word are all new and available now. Looking to shop? I’ve got you covered – and thank you in advance to those who use my affiliate links used below. Costs nothing extra – just helps me keep the lights on and the free content coming!

BlueMoonScrapbooking, Ellen Hutson, and Scrapbook.com carry most if not all of the supplies I used, and so does Simon Says Stamp.

Go for the gold!

I love creative people. I myself often feel like I don’t quite fit in or like some ideas are just too crazy… but I carry on anyhow. It takes a lot of guts to do what we do, sharing our ideas, our lives, and making ourselves vulnerable through posts and videos and all. I’ve been wanting for a long time now to create space here in the studio to create inspired by other people. Majorly impressed and inspired by a new FREE class and event, I figure now is the time.

I’m talking about Sandy Allnock and her “gold” class. I just finished watching day 1 & 2 and went shopping in my stash and am inspired to create and share with you here today. At the end of this post I’ve got link ups that you need for her class.

Note that this post, like all my posts, is 100% all me/my idea. Also? I am not a part of  this event, and also as always I must let you know that any links to supplies are affiliate links. That just means should any lovely blog readers click and purchase based off my link, a small % comes back this way to help offset costs and keep the blog running.

Here is a link to YouTube and my video about this project.

So creative friends, whether big or small I would love to hear from you when you have made something that has you excited, when you have a success, or when you just want someone to see something you’ve done. Jewelry to cards, scrapbooking to altered arts – it’s all amazing, wonderful, and I want to hear about it. I’m inspired to do more “shout out” and inspired by type posts. I also in general just want to discover more creative people, support what they’re doing, and say hey. This great big world of ours isn’t so big, and I always love to give encouragement and support to my fellow creatives.

Project how-to:

1. Spray Distress Spray stains (blueprint, pistachio, and tumbled glass) onto a manila tag. Let dry, then tape down a stencil over the tag and apply Prima gold crackle paste.

Tip: Once you remove and clean your stencil, allow the piece to fully dry. I discourage you from trying to speed this part along – it only makes a wrinkle vs true cracks.

2. Stitch around the edges of your tag, and add green trim and gold tape to the bottom (the stitches will help hold this down.

3. Stamp Prima butterflies with Delicata ink pad and heat set clear embossing powder over. Stitch these to your tag base as well.

4. All the stitching done and the gold paste dry, it’s time to assemble! Add your buttons and Tim Holtz phrase strips.

5. Use Perfect Pearls mist in Sunflower Sparkle lightly to add an all over sparkle. Then use Heidi Swapp gold mist and Tim Holtz blueprint sketch to “flick” a few droplets that are more bold.

6. As a finishing touch, add a white ribbon to the top and edge the tag with black archival ink for added contrast.

I used Prima gold paste, as well as Sunflower sparkle mist. I don’t believe either of these items are in the ‘gold’ class or sale – but they’re worth mentioning here and Ellen Huston does carry them. Now here’s some linkage- for the shopping with Ellen Hutson (get 15% off this category if you use the code goforthegold) and many of the supplies Sandy uses including my beloved Heidi Swapp gold mist, here is the link to Ellen Hutson “gold” category.

Ready to see the class that inspired my post today? Here is a link to Sandy’s blog and the first/main “gold” post that will be updated as lessons are added.
