Stamptember blog hop [and Simon Says Stamp give-away!]

Congrats to Karen Letchworth – the winner of the $25 to Simon Says Stamp!!

Happy Stamptember – and welcome to my contribution to the Stamp & Show blog hop!! I *love* stamping. I love September. I ADORE Simon Says Stamp for making it a month-long celebration of all things stamping on their blog!!! I’m excited to kick off this crafty month with a new project, and so much more…

The Simon Says Stamp and Show team is posting their projects for this week’s Stamp & Show challenge, giving away gift certificates to Simon Says Stamp, AND hopping along in celebration of it being Stamptember – so this is quite the Monday here!! Let me dive right into my project – I’ll talk more about the hop and the give-away at the end:

For the “read all about it” challenge this week I went with using book paper, text stamp, and a text paper as well. Oh, and a sentiment stamp too. Can you tell I loved the challenge?

Here are links to the supplies I used:

Steps to create:

1.  Cover the front of a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card with the text side of one of the pages from a Heidi Swapp memory file fotostack album. Stamp (with gold paint) the postmark stamp 2-3x across the card front.

2. Stamp the newspaper background stamp with clear embossing ink + powder and heat set.

3. Take a piece of book paper, stamp several daisies on it and color them. Then cut the flowers out.

4. On the card front, use a flower stencil, foam tool, and distress ink to stencil flowers onto the card background. You can see how the embossing really shows up! Adds a fun texture and detail to the card I think.

Note: I cut a hole in a piece of cardstock just barely smaller than my stencil and mounted it onto that with washi tape. That is what you see around my stencil in the photo below. This makes it much easier to color the flowers and not have ink go over the edge – and I can always remove it if I ever want to.

5. Add brown ink around the edge of your card, then wipe away any excess ink and prepare to assemble!

6. Make a flower pot from a starbucks coffee holder (or just a piece of cardstock would be fine!) and edge with brown ink, then stamp with sentiment stamp. Wrap and tie off some twine around the base.

7. Assemble the card by attaching the flowers with foam adhesive (just under the flower part), and the “pot” as well. I added a few extra stamped leaves to fill the pot a bit more.

I hope you like my project this week! I had a lot of fun with this one – and I love how it all came together. That flower stencil is one of my most favorite recent purchases for sure!!

Now let’s get to the really FUN STUFF!! You’re going to want to watch www.simonsaysstampblog.blogspot.com ALL MONTH for special guests, and Stamptember fun like you wouldn’t believe!! If you want to start at the beginning of this hop – this is where it all begins. For now though – be sure to go check out Sandra Mouwen’s blog next (she’s the next stop!). I love her project this week!

Before you hop off though, let us talk prizes. You’re going to want to hop along to each team member’s blog because we are all giving away a $25 gift certificate today – how cool is that of Simon Says Stamp to be giving all that away? Oh wait, there’s more. At the end of this hop you’ll find the Simon Says Stamp & Show challenge blog, and this week’s challenge which is “Read All About It”. If you enter that challenge (which you SHOULD! Come join us!) you’ll be entered to win a GRAND PRIZE $100 Simon Shopping Spree! Check out the Stamp & Show blog for more about that – or heck just follow the blog hop and you’ll get there. 🙂

If you’d like to be entered for the chance to win a $25 gift certificate to Simon Says Stamp – well you can do that right here and now too! Just leave me a comment and I will draw a winner on Sunday September 9th.

Once you’ve done that, be sure to go check out Sandra Mouwen’s blog next (she’s the next stop!). I love her project this week!

Here’s a list of everyone participating in the hop today:

Happy STAMPTEMBER!!!

Simon Says Stamp was founded in 2002 with an interest in exclusively selling rubber stamps. It didn’t take long until we realized we couldn’t stop there. Over the past 10 years we celebrate rubber stamping in its full glory by giving access to people around the world to a one stop shop. Rubber stamps still remain the heart of our business and we are celebrating by hosting a “STAMPtember” ™ event intended to inspire, educate, and celebrate the greatness of rubber stamping. Part of the enticement of rubber stamping is that stamps can be used in creating or complementing ANYTHING! From stamping dates on bank documents and postage parcels in the early 18th century, rubber stamping has dramatically expanded to include card making, scrapbooking, mixed media and many forms of altering and expressing art.

  9. I really like the flower pot ‘pocket’. It’s a wonderful place to ‘grow’ your flowers. Nice depth, texture, and text.

  15. Love how you’ve put this card all together! Love how you’ve repurposed the bookpages and the Starbucks thingie.

  16. I’ve been loving the trend of using newprint everywhere, so this project is right up my alley, too. Love it! This is going to be a fun month.

  17. This post really caught my eye! I always end up just stamping on solid paper and never thought to stamp on a piece of paper from a book. Love it!

  19. Hah! I like how the quasi-vintage look of the Starbucks logo goes so well with the rest of the piece. Ripping a book page out and stamping on it does rather make me cringe, but it certainly makes a nice effect.

  20. Whew, I thought I’d never get to the bottom here!

Did you make that card just for me? LOL. Being a coffee-holic I am loving the use of the cup holder not to mention every single detail of your card. It is just fabulous and I will be keeping my cup holders now for a new purpose. Just got a cute flowered one the other day that I saved. Perfect!

  21. Great idea to stamp images on text paper before coloring and fussy cutting. Thanks for a great project.

  22. Love the reuse idea…and its so stinkin’ cute – or it might be if you sprayed it with a scent!! Anyway – love it.
I would have never thought of it, and now I can think of lots of ways to make the flower pot card. Thanks May!

  23. I love this technique but I’m such a wimp when it comes to tearing out a page from a book lol even when the spine is broken and the pages could just fall out so easy TFS this 🙂

  53. Love this May. I already spotted the yellow flowers on inspiration picture on the Simon Says blog. Thanks for the inspiration and detailed description. I think I could actually manage a project like this LOL.

  54. I really love what you did here, and am especially appreciative that you gave such detailed instructions. I am not naturally artistic, and would never figure out how to do something like your card here. (If it’s not really a card, I apologize. I was a bit confused as to what you applied everything to.) So, I love when someone gives such easy-to-understand instructions because I learn so much from them. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
