Once upon a time I thought I was really into collage (I’m not). I was working on collecting some hardback books to alter and use the pages for collage… but decided to make myself READ any book before I destroyed it for sake of art. Pride & Prejudice was one of those books. Determined to read more classics, but knowing that it was sure to be BORING I took it with me on an airplane so that I’d have no better alternatives but to read it.
At page 10 I was in misery.
Page 30 I had no idea what was up and re-read from beginning.
By page 50… I was HOOKED. It became one of my top 10 all time favorite books – and even today if I pick it up I’ll just start reading.
Why do I mention it? Well because it’s got perhaps one of the greatest heroines (Miss Elizabeth!) and hero (Mr. Darcy)… and when I saw the new Jenni Bowlin line I just KNEW I had to make a Pride & Prejudice inspired canvas for my wall! I remember having to read Pride and Prejudice for Summer reading for my 12th grade English class. We had to read that, Crime & Punishment, and 2 other books. I just remember thinking it was one of the longest, most boring books I’d ever read. But I attribute that to 2 things…1, I don’t normally like historical-type fiction books. I prefer mysteries with a strong female detective. Oh and 2, the most important…I HAD to read it. I probably would have liked it much better if I’d chosen to read it.
As dour as that all sounds…you’d never guess my minor in college was English Literature. I actually like to read, alot. But after all the poetry and classical litterature that I did enjoy, I still prefer a good mystery over a romance. Nancy Drew, Agatha Christie, or Sara Paretsky…and I’m happy.
I love your collage!! But even more I’m glad you liked Pride and Prejudice…I’m a life long fan of Jane Austen, and once you get passed the tedious language, her stories are amazing. That being said, I would have knocked you down to grab a hard back copy of P&P, but glad you turned it into something so cool!

This is perfect! I am going to steal your idea. We were just in Bath, UK at the Jane Austen museum which was closing but my girls had their pictures taken with a statue of Jane Austen and the portrait of Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy.
