Challenge: Pearl

Can you believe Halloween is here?! I can’t. I’m SOOOO not ready. I just realized I volunteered to make stuff for both girl’s classes. and go on the field trip. and… yeah excuse me while I faint!! Ah but the crafty show must go on, and I continue to embrace the fall spirit with my contribution to Simon Says Stamp & Show’s challenge this week – where we’re adding pearl to our projects! This is an especially fun challenge to me – because you could interpret it SO many ways! I chose to feature perfect pearls mists + powders (LOVE THEM!).

Now, to decide who I’m sending this Thanksgiving card to!

Supplies used:

Head over immediately (if you’ve not done so already) and visit Simon Says Stamp & Show to see all of the other creations and to enter! This week’s prize (as always) is a $50 voucher to Simon Says Stamp! The winner is randomly drawn – you can enter by posting to your blog, flickr, or other site too. See the blog for entry details and rules.

Happy Crafting!

It was a royally good time…

my feet beg to differ, but the rest of me (and the whole family) had such a great time down at Disneyland. It was good to be unplugged and just play… to be away from all our regular stuff for a while, and to just enjoy.

Good times. Great food. Many memories.

Now, off to order photos and (hopefully) unpack and get some real world stuff sorted out today…

Halloween treat tag

Who doesn’t like a pretty tag on their Halloween treat?

I whipped this one up to put atop a little gift – I really am using rock candy crackle like a mad woman over here!

Instead of stenciling (as I have been doing) I used glossy multi-medium with my stencil to create the dots, then applied green stain, then rock candy, and brown distress ink to really make those cracks stand out.

I do love good crack.

I just can’t get enough of it!

Here are the supplies I used:

Rock Candied tags

This doesn’t have to be for tags – it could be for paper of all sorts of shapes and sizes. I have just been doing it a LOT lately, and so I wanted to share. I’ll share the how-to, and photos of it as well. (and, you can see a finished tag tomorrow using this technique!)

1. Color your tag. I like to do this with stencils + distress ink and I layer color gently with a foam blending tool.

2. Apply the crackle! Let it dry for a few minutes until cracks start, then you can speed things up with a heat tool if deisred.

3. Apply ink, rubbing it in and wiping away excess.

4. Apply matte medium such as PPA or Multi medium in matte and rub it all over the surface. This steps removes the glossy shine that rock candy crackle has.

You can see a real example of this here and I will be sharing another tag tomorrow.
