day 2 | holiday mood

What gets me in the mood for holiday craftiness? Quite often it’s music or movies that play an important role in making things feel a bit more festive. Today I want to share some favorites.

Movies:

    • White Christmas – the original, classic, good any time of year and always makes me feel warm & fuzzy. My sister and I watched this together… maybe a hundred times. possibly more.
    • Elf – family favorite + most quoted holiday movie around here. Who doesn’t adore Buddy?
    • Love Actually – a personal favorite but WATCH OUT! It’s rated “R” due to some rather random nudity… so don’t watch when kids are up!

Music:

There are other single songs I love – like Mariah Carey’s version of “All I Want for Christmas is You” , and I’m a sucker for Sleigh Ride, Winter Wonderland, White Christmas… oh a number of songs. I haven’t named everything here – and obviously there are a ton of movies I enjoy having on as I work this time of year including some of the cartoon specials, cheesy ABC Family made for TV movies, Christmas Story… so many… What are your favorites?

  1. I have the original Bing Cosby album for White Christmas and I just put that on my turn table and light my candles. Smooth, very smooth.

  2. I too love White Christmas(Rosemary Clooney is from around my area), and I could watch It’s A Wonderful Life everyday. And as far as music I have 3 albums that I play every year Elvis Christmas(grew up listening to him thanks to my mom), Martina McBride(Baby It’s Cold Outside w/ Dean Martin and Blue Christmas w/ Elvis are my favorites, she has the best female voice around) and Alan Jackson as you can see I am a huge country music fan!

  3. Love Christmas movies and music!! My favorite movie is National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation it isn’t officially Christmas around here til we’ve watched it usually the day after Thanksgiving. We also really enjoy Elf and all the Frosty the Snowman and “old” Christmas shows that come on every year.

Today while working on my December Daily album pages I was listening to Straight No Chaser I just discovered them last year and love their albums Holiday Spirits and Christmas Cheers. I have so many versions of Carol of the Bells my all time favorite Christmas song. I drive my kids crazy with the Christmas music but I only get to listen to it for a short time of the year so they can suffer LOL

  4. Love Actually always makes me cry, but I absolutely love it. Michael Buble has a Christmas album out this year that you might like if you’re a Harry Connick Jr. fan. Speaking of White Christmas, Bette Midler and Linda Ronstadt did a fun version of “Sisters” on Bette’s Christmas album. With iTunes I rarely buy entire albums anymore, but I really enjoy Bette Midler’s album. It’s full of fun!

  5. For me, the Christmas season doesn’t begin until I hear Nat King Cole’s Christmas Song — “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire….” on the radio or in a store. We have a station that plays Christmas music 24/7 from this week through Christmas. I also listen to a couple of the AOL Radio Christmas channels on the Internet. They have quite a variety of Christmas music.
My favorite Christmas movie is Miracle on 34th St. which I watch every year while I wrap gifts.
Thanks, May, for giving us 25 days of holiday goodness. You are so generous with your time and talents!

  6. I purchased A Very She and Him Christmas a couple of weeks ago….LOVE IT!!! And any jazzed up version of Sleigh Ride gets my jingle bells ringing!! And movies…all of the old cartoons…Rudolph, Frosty the Snow Man, Charlie Brown Christmas..I’m just a kid at heart. Thanks for sharing not just your craftiness, but part of WHO you are. 🙂
