what RU doing?

I, the dinosaur “change is bad” and “texting is stupid” girl have finally gone to the dark side. Yes, I now have texting as a part of my cell phone plan. (sigh) I was perfectly content with e-mail and all that. Then when I was at my sister’s a few months ago I realized that I NEVER hear from that child because she texts. At work, from home, wherever she is… she texts. Aha! I thought. If I text, then I could stay in better contact with her. I just need a phone that has a full keyboard.

So I came home, told mr. tech, and was told I needed to wait until July because I could have his old phone and he’d get a new one. Now before you get offended on my behalf- I was good with this plan. I’ve dropped my phone more times than I can count. It’s been in the pool, fish tank, Rebecca’s mouth, trampled by Elizabeth’s my little ponies, and more. It’s been a good Razor for 3+ years and IT STILL WORKS. My point? I so DID NOT want my husband spending big bucks on a phone that could well end up bashed up within 3 months. Who am I kidding? a week.

When the new iphone came out Jason figured out that his original plan wasn’t going to work because he wasn’t eligible for upgrade, and that he liked his existing phone better than the new iphone, and so he bought me this blackberry. Now I don’t have all the fancy extras activated. Why? Because I’m an AT HOME girl, and I have my laptop for anything Internet. Don’t need it. I really like the blackberry curve though- easy to use and I didn’t have to read a manual. HA!

As for my original plan? It’s working great. I’m hearing from my little sister 1000x more than I used to. Almost daily! I get to read funny stories and the minutia of her life. A bonus? Have found that there are actually quite a few people in my life that text and that I can communicate with EVEN FASTER than e-mail. You know I like fast responses so this is tickling my fancy for sure.

While I refuse to “speak exotic texting language” (to quote Jason) I will enjoy this new way of staying in touch with friends. I can’t believe I’ve finally gone to the dark side…

  1. I remain the dinosaur……….probably the loner without texting ever! LOL

  2. OMG May I so understand. . . I had never been to the dark side then my sister got a phone and now we text each other almost everyday to keep in touch. I am going to blame her and yes we have not gone to the text shortcuts yet. . .

  3. Good for you for getting more ‘techie’!

My son has this phone and I think it rocks! I have texting on my phone too and my texts are VERY short, the few that I even do. I love getting them, but it is a LOT of trouble to me, so….when I get one with a cool keyboard I will be right there with you.

    Enjoy!

  4. I don’t text and really have no desire too! There are times when I wish cell phones hadn’t been invented! Necessary evil sometimes.

Have fun with your new “toy” ! 🙂

  5. I just won from my phone company 4000 text messages so I have been sending & sending….sometimes just something cute to hubby like I love you the MOSTEST! LOL! Let me know how you like the blackberry……..I have been considering it but holding back & looking at the Rokr that has music MP3 player in it too………best of both worlds!

  7. Ah…texting. If you only knew how often I actually texted my husband to fill him in on important daily events…we’re goofy, I know.

  8. Congrats on your new phone! It looks pretty cool. My teenager is the king of texting. We started him with a 750 text limit, and he went over, so I increased him to 1500, and again, he went over. I finally relented and got him an unlimited plan. Pitiful Mom here only has a prepaid plan, no camera, no internet…just a phone (LOL)…but I’m okay with it.

  9. Even though I’m in a fairly technical computer job, I am also a “IM” idiot. I think its something to do with my age and the fact I read a lot. I tend to be too wordy, like grammar and punctuation, etc… so I’m no good at texting or Instant messaging. UGH! I try, but I do love to send e-mails where I can be wordy LOL I am lost without my e-mail, so I’m semi-techy (is that even a word?)
