Gossamer Blue June project #4

010

How is it June 11 already? egads.  011

I’ve still got my June Gossamer Blue kit sitting here on my desk, yelling at me “USE ME!” and so I spread a bit of white paint onto a patterned paper and documented a little story from just a few days ago.

Keeping creative and having fun – it’s all good stuff! I’ll be sharing at least 2 more projects from this kit. LOVE IT. I didn’t have a photo from the last day of school, this one was a few weeks prior but does that matter? I don’t think so!! I think if the photo is in the same season/year it is considered a match. Don’t sweat the small details like that – just get those stories told.

I went a bit wild with the stitching on this one… but I’m glad because those plastic letters (which are cool!) will now be really stuck to my page and not fall off any time soon. Good times! Our summer fun has definitely started…

Registration is open until Wednesday evening – if you’d like to join me for more creative fun Camp Scrap is in session!

Button Challenge

You know what is super cool? As part of my job with Simon Says Stamp & Show, I get to pick the challenges each week. So when I realized we hadn’t yet addressed my FAVORITE supply and thing to shop for – I knew I had to do something about it. So I am VERY excited this week that our challenge is buttons. Just craft anything with a button (or a dozen!) and post it to enter the challenge this week. It’s WIDE open – be sure to visit the blog to see all of the other creations and to enter. This week’s prize (as always) is a $50 voucher to Simon Says Stamp! The winner is randomly drawn – you can enter by posting to your blog, flickr, or other site too. See the blog for entry details and rules as usual.

So… what did I make? Well I really wanted to make a button-focused frame or mirror. I couldn’t find a mirror I wanted to use (that was cheap) so I went frame.

sss

The how-to for a project like this is incredibly simple!!

  1. Get a frame (or mirror, etc) and cover it with paint. Use colored paint, or do as I did and use white paint + mist or other liquid color.
  2. Apply some liquid adhesive around to help buttons stick.
  3. While paint and adhesive is wet, start sticking down buttons. DO NOT be picky. Just GO!
  4. Things looking a bit wild? not thrilled with some of the colors? NO PROBLEM! Mix a bit of PPA + gesso or white paint and use a paintbrush to spread it lightly over the buttons. This will give a cool look, but also serve as adhesive so you can sprinkle some clear glitter over and add a layer of sparkle.

steps

Love that this project you really don’t have to be super particular – just stick buttons down and have fun! I recommend picking a few colors and just not thinking too hard about placement. The more random, the better!

Now this frame – I’m not sure about the photo in fact I think I will try and find a 5×7 mirror piece to fit inside here instead! But I placed the photo so you could see how it might look.

Here’s a great thing about this project – you could make these to suit any season, theme, or color scheme you want! You could add in metal bits, charms, resin bits, and more! Add in chipboard letters, paper flowers, whatever you like! I just happen to love the simplicity of just using my button drawers.

A new monthly post…

So cool news – I’m going to be doing a monthly blogging series on scrapbooking for the Simon Says Stamp blog. I do a wide variety of craft projects, but you know scrapbooking will always be #1 for me. It’s cool to get to share some how-to, new products, and also have another reason to scrapbook! This month I’m all about Crate Paper the Pier, layering 6×6 paper, and you’ll find a sketch too. You can find the post here.

Have a great weekend!

On my desk: summer scrapbook picks

It is officially summer vacation here, we’re starting it with an over 100 degree kind of day. PHEW!! I thought I’d share six top summer scrapbook supplies today – as seen on my desk right now.

Camp Scrap: Day 1

campscrap

It is Thursday – and that means it is Camp Scrap DAY 1!! We’re here, getting it started, and of course you are still welcome to join in the fun! This class will NOT be re-run/repeated!! Camp Scrap is always an all-new experience each time.

This is also our last day of school here, and I made a very quick card-

new

Want to see how I made this? It was EASY – you can see my video (YouTube capture video- NO pauses/edits/breaks!) right here.  All summer I will be doing a weekly “capture” video in this style where it is just one take, no re-do, just 3-6 minutes or so of craftiness. Back to the card- I made it using a chipboard flower accent + new Hero Arts stamps – I’m just soooo in love with the splatter one and “good times” the stamp? OH YES!!  Simon Says Stamp has all the new goods – and you’ll be seeing more here. Hero Arts came out with some fantastic stuff – and I’ve got lots more than a 7minute card to share!!

I wish you very Happy Crafting- and welcome you to Camp Scrap! For more information or to sign up click here.
