techniques | dylusions ink sprays

Today I’m talking about Dylusions Ink Sprays. I *ADORE* them, and I’ve been using them a ton this summer. I’ve created a video showing how I use them:

[link to youtube]

Here’s a card I made just after making the video:

1. cover watercolor paper with dylusions in both greens

2. use water + stencil on background

3. stamp in black archival ink (leaves), apply water brush to them (to lighten)

4. stamp with perfect medium, then brush on perfect pearls (some leaves)

5. on separate piece of watercolor paper stamp in black archival ink leaves and flowers. Color with dylusions ink, cut out, adhere to card with foam tape.

6. spritz with perfect pearls mist

Here is the second project as seen in the video-

If you have questions – please feel free to leave a comment here! you’ll be seeing more with them here on my blog for sure.

  1. Perfect timing for this tutorial. I have just bought these sprays for the first time and had only used them once. I will definatley give this a try! Thank you

  2. I only own one color: Melted Chocolate. I can see i did not choose wisely when picking my one purchase. These colors are soo vibrant. Guess I’ll go shopping again.

  3. Wow! Such gorgeous colors! I may have to get some of these!
May, you’re always my enabler! LOL!

  4. I can’t wait to try this out with two Dylusions coming in red and turquoise. I have been inspired to get these unusual colors for me because of what I see here week after week.

Question about the stitching…do you use a regular sewing machine or do you have a special craft one? I’ve been hankering for something to stitch with even though I can’t sew on a button, LOL. Just wondering what would be reasonable for crafting that I can depend on.

  5. I am in love with the technique you used with perfect medium and the stencil. I have never thought of doing that. Thank you!

  6. I am loving the bright colors! Very beautiful!

BTW – I have shopped with Blue Moon before and they do offer great, fast service.

  7. The next best thing to getting my hands inky is watching someone else playing with fun products. You really inspired me to try Dylusions sprays!

  8. You have convinced me that I need to get some Dylusions. I’m loving what you’re doing with it.

  9. May, I love your card and tag. I wouldn’t think to use gold with the bright dylusions colors. Gorgeous!! tfs!!

  10. Hi May, I enjoy all your posts but this one was perfect for me.. I love using the Dylusions sprays and needed some new ideas.
My question is – do you have a clever way to get the sprays into the water pens? I’m definitely going to try that technique.
I order from Blue Moon often (too often, lol) and love them.
    Thanks for the great video!

  11. ACH!!! Now I WANT Dylusions Mists!! Such wonderful colors! Love the tag with the perfect pearls. I think that is one of my favorite techniques.

  12. wow the colors are so vibrant. I’ll have to look for those when I go to the mainland (from Hawaii) next week!

  13. I do a rotten job of telling you how much I enjoy your blog.Love this technique-more shopping to do.I do want you to know that 90% of the products I have purchased in the last 6 mos have been a direct result of inspiration I have found here and on Tammy T’s blog.Thank you for all the time you put in for all of us.

  14. I haven’t tried the Dylusion Sprays yet. I’m really loving the colors in your tags! These would make a great addition to my Distress Inks!

  15. I would love to try these but I haven’t had an opportunity to purchase them yet. They look like fun and such creativity!

  16. Loved the video, I have several pieces drying and tomorrow maybe I can pull them together into some cards and tags… Just not enough time in each day! I liked the faux bleaching effect a lot!

  17. Good Morning May! I am really enjoying your journey into the dylusions spray and painting arena! I am especially thrilled with your layouts using them! I find myself really exploring them in my art journals, but have yet to actually use them in my scrapbooking! Once again, you are my inspiration for trying new things! By the way, I am sharing this blog page on my Color 101 with Joanne Sharp’s facebook page. We have been exploring the dylusion sprays, and they need to see how you can pour them into the waterbrush ๐Ÿ™‚ Blessings on your summer- ME

  18. Thank you May! I have been resisting Dylusions (no pun intended) because I honestly didn’t know what to do with them. You’ve given me a ton of ideas!!

  19. Hey May! These videos for Camp Scrap are rockin’. Actually, all your videos are AWESOME! Have a question about setting the perfect pearls on the Dylusions. Since you set the pearls with a mist of water is it going to mess up the background of Dylusions? Just curious as to your thoughts.

Thanks for a GREAT summer camp!!
