sugar cookie time

My dear aunt sent Elizabeth her own spatula, some sprinkles, and an apron in an “open now” present for Christmas. Such a fabulous gift for any child that has parents willing to let them cook. Oh man, did E go crazy over her new goods. WOW. Of course, the very next morning we had to get up and make some cookies. The only kind I could think of for sprinkles are sugar, and I remembered a recipe I saved that might just work.

My helpers were DEVOTED to cookie making. The work is worth it.

cookie-2

You want the recipe, I know. I will share… just like E shared some of them with neighbors.

cookie-3

The cookies turned out delicious (first time with this recipe!), we got some fun photos, and had a very good time.

cookie-4

the recipe:

1 cup (2 sticks) softened butter
1 cup sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
2 1/4  cups flour

1. Beat butter 1 min, then add sugar, baking powder, and salt. Beat until combined, scrape sides as needed.
2. Add in egg and vanilla and beat until mixed and then add flour (slowly) and beat in. If you need to, mix some of the flour by hand (don’t overbeat!) Chill dough in fridge for 1hr (or in freezer 15min!)
3. Preheat oven 300degrees and roll dough in balls (I went small on mine- about 1-1 1/2″) and then roll in sugar. I used sprinkles on some, red and white sparkling/sanding sugar on others). Bake 15 minutes but do NOT let them brown!

The cookies are super tender and delicious… buttery MMMM.

pretty as a picture for Monday
