product pick | Studio Calico pretty pink mist

Oh Mister Huey, when I want a solid no-sparkle color, you are my go-to mist. Today, I’ve got to tell you guys that the Studio Calico Mister Huey’s mist in Pretty Pink is a must. I LOVE the color. I’ve been misting it right onto my projects, but I’ve also been mixing it with stuff like molding paste (seen on tag below) to use with stencils and get more out of my new pink love.

It’s just the perfect spring pink. Bright without being neon, a nice tone that is lovely with blues, greens, aquas, and other pinks… and it fills a need I hadn’t realized that I had. LOVE.

One of my favorite things to do when I have random stuff or bits of extras left over is to just make a quick tag. This one started because I had some pretty pink mist + molding paste left over from another project (that you’ll see later this week) and so I smeared it over a stencil and onto a tag. You’ll  notice some sparkle above – it was misted with some glimmery mist after dry to add a bit of blue shimmer.

If you couldn’t already tell – I had a lovely time playing and whipping up this tag. I used cream paint in the letters (on metal plate) to make them stand out – then I wiped away the paint that was on the top (non-letters) part.

DCWV Fridays | Coral Couture layout + give-away

Congrats Julie Corrigan (I emailed you) - you’re last week’s winner!

Today I’m diving back into my Coral Couture stack and playing with more of the cardstock to create a simple (but one of my recent faves!) layout.

What I’m really impressed with (aside from great textures and patterns) is how smoothly this line ties in with other brands, embellishments, etc. Knowing that really makes it a great value to me, as I know I can count on it to be versatile.

I used some Webster’s Pages trims and a flower (cut in 1/2 and placed at bottom) as well as my sizzix leaf dies with DCWV cardstock (then painted/inked) for my leaves.

I love how perfectly the trims worked with the paper, and that the cardstock is a texture that allows easy journaling. Being able to play up the cream, green, or blue tones in this line (and play down the corals) is another cool thing.

FYI – I used three 4×6 photos that I cropped down to fit across the page. Here’s one more detail shot…

JBS video

It is no secret that I adore the Jenni Bowlin paint dabbers – in fact my love must be very apparent because they asked me to make a video showing how I like to use them. It’s featured in the JBS Mercantile gazette (click here to read)

I make two layouts in the video featuring both new and old JBS product – and I had such fun with it I’m glad they asked me to contribute.  [link to the youtube video]

A big thank you to www.jbsmercantile.com for inviting me to contribute – I had such fun wiht these dabbers (oh, those dabbers….) and I hope you like seeing what I did with mine. With spring coming Jenni’s colorful palette is perfect for all kinds of scrapbooking, and her products are in stores now!

In fact… I spy a ton of JBS goodness over at bluemoonscrapbooking.com

Distress Markers

I’ve been getting a *LOT* of questions about distress markers, and I’m ready to share! I’ve got an article up at www.scrapbookupdate.com today, and I made a quick video to share with you here as well.

You’ll be seeing a LOT of these from me. It’s distress in tiny form. The stains gave us a bigger (Wetter) format, now we’ve got a detail/tiny one. LOVE IT!

My suggestion for buying would be to pick your personal fave color(s) of distress. The ones I use are tumbled glass, peeled paint, brushed corduroy, and faded jeans… of course also worn lipstick, frayed burlap, wild honey, scattered straw, antique linen… so many to love! The price is right too – at about $3.50 each they are the least expensive way to add distress colors to your stash.

If you’ve got more questions, feel free to ask them here. I am definitely just getting started with learning these pens, and finding new ways to use them all the time… you’ll be seeing more of them here for sure.

You can pre-order these at SimonSaysStamp.com and they’ll ship them right to you when they are in stock.

Blog Hop | Balzer Designs “trust your heart” template

Today I’m excited to be a part of Julie Fei-Fan Balzer’s stencil blog hop!!! I am a HUGE fan of both Julie and the Crafter’s Workshop stencils, and I have been working with them in so much of my crafting – LOVE! Her stencils with the Crafter’s Workshop (see them all here) are SO FAB! I’m going to be playing with the ‘trust your heart’ 6″ stencil today.

This stencil would be awesome on a canvas, used as template to cut out the words, with mist, paint, with multi-medium to create a resist… oh my. I have SO MANY ideas for it! Today, I’ll be sharing a layout.

First  I used the herringbone stencil + heirloom blue mister huey to create my background on kraft cardstock. Then I placed my papers + photo and figured out where I wanted the title (aka my stencil). After that I used molding paste + plastic knife over my stencil because I just LOVE the raised look!

I also used the punchinella template + Ranger perfect pearl mist in pink gumball to add a subtle layer of sparkle + color. Oh but my words needed some pop! So I grabbed my smooch ink and went along the letters…

You can also see I used distress stickles (spun sugar) in the heart. The papers + stickers + brads I used for this page are from the Amy Tangerine for American Crafts line.

Seriously just *love* this stencil. LOVE! The other one (if you believe you can you will) is equally awesome. I just love how depending on how you use these, layer them, what mediums you use the results can vary so widely!! I’ve been known to just use the word heart + heart of this one.

I hope you liked my project – and be sure to check out the other ladies that are participating today to see more ideas + projects!!

Thanks to Julie for asking me to participate – you’ll be seeing MORE with these stencils + me for sure!! :) LOVE THEM! Just FYI, you should totally make sure your LSS carries these, or if you don’t have a local store, there are great on-line options. I’ve found a great selection of the 6″ stencils at simonsaysstamp.com, and both 6″ and 12″ stencils at scrapbook.com

note: A while back I made a video for www.scrapbookupdate.com about using these templates + why I love Crafter’s Workshop templates. here’s that video in case you want to see them in action:

another semi-related side note: Julie was one of the AMAZING contributors in my book that just came out (Scrapbook Workshop) – in fact in the ‘see inside’ free preview up on amazon you can see some of the crafter’s workshop templates in play (star and damask – in projects by me some of the last projects shown in preview).

Tape, tape, tape…

I just found these two at www.modcloth.com – oh my…

Clearly, I”m going to have to add these to my very meager tissue/washi tape collection. CLEARLY. [er, when budget allows, that is. OUCH they're pricey!]

Here are some choices currently in my shopping cart that are under $10…

Are you a tape collector? (So far I’m not… I use mine up!) What are your favorites? How do you use them? Or do you not get the appeal?

Watch for tapes to play a big part in my upcoming blog series about my creative process…
