Dear Lizzy jar paper [technique video]

So I was playing around with something to spruce up the Dear Lizzy jar paper that I was using to make an embellishment – and I thought I’d whip up a video to share. It’s no secret that I’m loving the new Dear Lizzy Neapolitan line - and I am having a whole lot of fun with this sheet of paper and all those cute jars.

I think this idea could be used on any shape – I know I’ll be using it more in future for sure!

SSS March Kit

Did you know Simon Says Stamp has a monthly card kit? I like that it’s not huge, I appreciate the fun details, and the March kit has a lot of cool goodies too – here’s a photo:

So what would I, a crafter not known for her card skillz (though I do try my hand at them on occasion!), do with a card kit?  When they asked me if I’d like to play with one + blog my projects I was intrigued by the challenge, and took a time out from scheduled crafting to play…

This is the first tag I made. Very straight forward paper covering a tag (that was in kit), and a bit of stamping and light embellishing.

I do love making tags, and I decided to use some of the 6×6 papers from this kit to make a torn/pieced together tag. Here you can see how I layered the strips.

Then I cut off all the excess from the tag, and then inked the edges, misted, and added a few little touches…

Here’s a detail shot.

I really love how this tag turned out too. My next thought was, can I take this card kit and turn it into a layout? Of course! Because I use a lot of bits and pieces of papers on my layouts the 6×6 patterns were great.

it didn’t turn out how I planned (but that’s ok) – but I used a shell stencil on my page + gold acrylic paint.

For my title, I applied gold paint over letter stickers then removed the letter stickers as shown below.

I really love this aqua baker’s twine. Well actually, every piece of this kit was lovely from the little ink pad to the papers and stamps from the new Rhonna Farrer collection! I hope you enjoyed my look at this kit – you can check it out here if you’d like.

hearts + pink.

I believe in Valentine’s Day as a chance to share love in general. Friends, grandparents, children… I don’t believe in hyping up forced romance. That’s not real to me.

But love in general is always something I’m down to celebrate.

Today I want to share some favorite craft products that feature pink + hearts. Because I won’t lie – I love that Valentine’s Day features pink.

Basic Grey Kissing Booth.  this line makes me so happy. All that beautiful pink + chocolate-y brown. LOVE. The stitched heart paper is my favorite.

Hero Arts 4 Hearts stamps - they’re a great size + shape, and I find myself using them more often than any other heart stamps. I do love my Hero Arts stamps.

Tim Holtz heart (mini) dies - I use (and adore) these little hearts almost every week. They’re the perfect size + shape for most all my projects. I’m SO glad to have them! They’ll cut through all kinds of materials too- love that.

Doodlebug Twine - really anything Doodlebug is cute, but all their “cupcake” and “Bubblegum” colored (pink) supplies are my very favorites. I love their pink! This card of twine has quickly become a go-to for me this month.

Distress Stickles in Spun Sugar - I love worn lipstick, but Spun Sugar is my go-to soft pink distress stickles color. Love!

 Dear Lizzy Neapolitan trims

What are your favorite love (or red or pink) products? Do you like a bit of glitter with your love pages? Like some metallic added in? Or are you all over the map with how you scrapbook loved ones?

I’m off to my Big Picture class to issue a love-related challenge now – I challenge you as well - do some love-related craftiness and share!

All of these products + many more love, heart, and pink craft supplies can be found at simonsaysstamp.com

around the web this week!

Hello there! I’m still working up a storm here, and will have some blog exclusives to share – but I really wanted to jump on and let you know where I’m at elsewhere on the web this week!

I’m sharing a new video + project just for www.simonsaysstamp.com over on their blog (link) today. *LOVE* these hero arts stamps I featured! As my #1 favorite on-line store, was really fun to come up with a new project (which turned into a video – how could I not?!) to share. They’re also giving away a spot in Field Guide – so you could enter to win!

Speaking of winning – my friend Stephanie Howell is also giving away a spot in field guide!

Tomorrow you’ll find me at www.scrapbookupdate.com with a new article up featuring Echo Park.

and Friday watch http://ellesstudio.blogspot.com/ for a special post featuring the project peeked above.

new Amy Tangerine goodies

I have LOVED using the new Amy Tangerine line that released this summer, I mean… I’ve used it more than any other single line released. CRAZY! So when the line extension + daybooks came out I was super pumped.

I’ve been writing a “Noteworthy” series for Scrapbook Update for some time now, but it needs a short break. With CHA just around the corner the news is coming fast & furious, and there will be loads of articles covering lots of the good stuff, not to mention the sneak peek page Nancy is famous for that will have up-to-date links and updates. In other words, I wanted to switch things up for a while so I’m taking a break from my regularly scheduled column and doing up “New & Noteworthy” which will take a look at a new product line each Thursday that is brand new and in stores!

First up – that Amy Tangerine line extension I was just mentioning. The article is up, and you can read my thoughts on the line and see more detail images and info about the layout I am sharing here -

If I had to choose just four items (though I do recommend them ALL!) I would tell you to get:

Now I’m not normally a mini-book person, but I’m LOVING the daybooks. Loving how it could be a journal-like book, how it has so many fun bits and pieces to it, and the overall look. In fact, I’m going to take one with me to Maui next month (and yes, I’ll share my crafty results!), so this too goes on my *must* own list.

I love this off the map daybook. so cute. So easily customized – or leave it as-is and just add words + images. I’m thinking about getting one for CHA to have people sign/write in too…

Anyhow, as I said before you can check out my full review of the line + more pics and supply list of my layout over at ScrapbookUpdate.com

enabler note? All the new goodies are in over at Simon Says Stamp… oh yes they have loads of good things!!

Stencil blog hop!

I’m happy to be a part of another of Julie Balzer’s stencil blog hops today! Today the focus is on the leaf and flower frame stencils. I managed to work in both – and I had a lot of fun.

First I placed the leaf stencil onto a piece of green (kraft core) cardstock, then I used the green patina perfect pearls mist all over. I did not spray heavily – I wanted a dotted/misted look not a solid look. I then dabbed gold acrylic paint all over, and because it was still wet (and I knew this going in!) it smudged in some places. LOVE the look!

Where the mist is – it’s barely visible and in person SO sparkly. LOVE this green patina mist. Once dry I added my photos, stitched a bit, and used some yellow paint + flower frame (6″) stencil to accent my page…

In addition to the stenciled spot, I turned over the (wet) stencil and “stamped” a few spots on my page. Great use of the extra paint and I love the look!

I also used the leaf frame and (my favorite) punchinella stencils on a strip of patterned paper to add more color and depth to it. FUN.

I misted a leaf onto my journaling tag, and added a few paint, distress stickles, and other accents to finish the page.

I could see the leaves taking on a spring feel, bolder green for summer, perhaps a tropical vacation page… so many things.

As you can see I used the leaf stencil 3 ways on this page in addition to the punchinella and flower frame stencils.

A great selection of Crafter’s Workshop templates can be found at BlueMoonScrapbooking.com, a ton of the 6″ templates are available at simonsaysstamp.com, and scrapbook.com also has a number of their templates.
